Cashew asked me about Q/Picard fics, sometime back. I mentioned that the TNG fanfic-dom is already teeny compared to the TOS fic-dom, much less have good fics for a particular pairing.

Of course, that didn't stop me from going out and see what I could find. And lo, among all the chaff, there were a few gems. *beams*

Thank You by icarus_chained - I've actually recced some HL fics by this author before. His TNG fics are great too. Very fluffy fic, this one. Squee-worthy.

Infatuation by sasha_anu - A not so happy ending fic, with characterization that really stands out. And I admit, Patrick Stewart Picard unleashing his verbal "fangs" is *hot*.

Untitled? fic by maraceles - Lies somewhere on the spectrum between the first two fics I guess.

Sanity & its sequel Reality by Tiggy Malvern - Excuses, excuses... wherein a fic actually takes into account the backdrop of ST:FC and the Dominion War.

Hypothetically Speaking by Alara J Rogers - Post-Nemesis. Good effort on trying to consolidate Q's depiction in VOY with TNG.

And now, an actual Reboot!Trek fic rec. Something I actually like out of this new timeline! Gasp!

Not All Those Who Wander - Spock Prime making his way through the new universe he's stuck in.

EDIT: Some more non-slash TNG fics...

Lost in the Woods and its sequel No Good Deed - TNG crossover with Firefly, though the sequel is more two separate stories dealing with the aftermath of the first fic. I liked the plotting, the characters, and how this is a perfect example of how a good xover can be written of series that are completely imbalanced on a versus scale. The random pinyin was a little bit annoying, but it's also Firefly canon, so oh well.

Some non-ST fic recs

The Anubis Saga - SG-1 x kitteh. Yeah, you heard right. XD

The ZPM Equation - Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis) crossover with Numb3rs.

Structural Integrity - SG-1 episode tag for "Shades of Grey". I usually don't like angst-fics, but this one certainly jerked my heart out. Great fic exploring the friendship and closeness of SG-1.

Title: Prometheus Bound (outline)
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Stolen Memories
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: In at least four other timelines, P3R-233 was a dead world, burned by the wrath of Apophis. In this timeline, the butterfly effect saved their civilization, but can it save their future?

Prometheus Bound )

Notes:
1. We don't know much about the planet where the quantum mirror was found, aside from that in three canon realities (as well as the "original" timeline here), the race was wiped out by Apophis, probably for being too advanced and thus a threat to Goa'uld rule. Given the many artifacts lying around the place, it's not hard to imagine this world had an SGC-like operation that just didn't have the character shields and luck that Earth did to dodge the bullets of a dangerous galaxy.
2. The butterfly that caused a difference in *this* reality is that the Asgard were on the lookout for the quantum mirror (foreshadowing) for their quantum research, and thus stepped in to save this particular planet as a side effect of that goal.

Title: Aftermath (outline)
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Fall of a Goddess
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: Hathor has fallen, but that doesn't mean SGC's job is done yet.

Aftermath )

Notes:
1. We don't much see the cannon SGC deal with the aftermath of their actions, especially given all the System Lords they've offed in their career. I thought it would be nice to deviate from that here.
2. I thought it ironic, and funny, that the NID would get thwarted by a different foe than the SGC. Similarly, having dealt with the NID first, Weir might have a better impression of the SGC in comparison... maybe.

Title: Fall of a Goddess (outline)
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Prometheus Bound
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: SGC is contacted by the advanced world of Javabli, who are interested in negotating technologies with the leaders of Earth. However, it soon becomes apparent that the planet and its people are not what they seem.

Fall of a Goddess )

Notes:
1. According to the air dates, it took about 16 months for Hathor to presumably start building up her forces and make a play on SGC. I've kept that time frame here, since she escaped earlier than in cannon.
2. It made no sense in the show that Hathor could have a mature symbiote in just over a year, so I'm guessing she artificially aging it somehow, possibly using tech scavenged from Nirriti. It doesn't matter whether or not O'Neill gets snaked anyway, since SGC in this timeline has the means to get it out.
3. Hathor did not appear to have air superiority in the show, so what little space capability she had was either not on that planet at the time, or she probably hasn't rebuilt any ships within a year yet.

Title: Stolen Memories (outline)
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Remembrance
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: Grateful to the Galarans for their help, Earth begins negotiations. Unfortunately, the Galarans have an ulterior motive to the talks.

Stolen Memories )

Notes:
1. The irony of the Galarans is that they're practically a mirror of the SGC/NID relationship. This story could have easily be one going the opposite way - with the NID stealing info/tech and the SGC having an attack of conscience, causing the advanced alien race targeted to not think too badly of Earth but not want to deal further with them anyway. *coughcanonTollanscough*

Title: Pest Control (outline)
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Drummer Boy
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: At the (oblique) request of the Asgard, SGD investigates the mystery of an apparently abandoned planet. Will they be forced to watch the doom of a civilization?

Pest Control )

Notes:
1. Made some changes to the description of Svoriin (RPG is not cannon :P) in order to make the plot work.
2. I don't think they found any uninfected survivors in "Bane", which took place in 1998. But there were still newly infected people, so I'll hazard to guess there are still some uninfected survivors in 1997. Also, it was said Teal'c symbiote was helping hold back the effects of the bug bites, and given how miraculous goa'uld symbiote healing works, I'm guessing that without it, a human wouldn't last very long at all.

Title: Connecting the Dots (outline)
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Frozen History
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: It turns out Daniel's grandfather wasn't crazy after all. The discoveries in the Antarctic outpost takes Destiny One on a wild ride.

Connecting the Dots )

Notes:
1. Without Teal'c to interrupt the transport process of the skull as in canon, it's likely that the transport would complete and facilitate the initial contact with the Omeyocans.
2. The Tollan homeworld was uninhabitable by late 1997/early 1998. So at this point in time, it's reasonable to have them in the middle of their crisis.

Title: Frozen History (outline)
Series: Alternative Destiny
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: The alternate O'Neill had reason to hate Antarctica. Unfortunately, a change in the timeline does not stop the frozen continent from being the jinx of his existence.

Frozen History )

Notes:
1. I don't want to deal with the issue with Ayianna or the weapons platform yet (that's being saved for later, maybe), so a simple workaround is to have Destiny tell SGC to dig somewhere else. I'd hate to think the major outpost of the Ancients and practically one of their capitals would be as small as the bit we saw on TV, so let's just say it was just a small bit of the whole thing.
2. Jack's and Sam's dislike of Antarctica is, of course, mainly due to the influence of their alternate selves. Of course, given that they won't have good experiences in this timeline with the place either, I'm sure they'll start forming their own reasons to dislike it.

So, in Stargate, the USS Daedalus takes anywhere from 3 weeks to 14 days (depending on which source you ask) to make a one way trip from Earth to Atlantis in the Pegasus Irregular Dwarf Galaxy, 3 Mly away. With a ZPM plugged into their engines, the trip took 4 days.

The Asgard went from the Milky Way to the Ida Galaxy (supposedly ~4 Mly away, so somewhere around NGC 3109) in a "few" hours, and that was towing another ship. *stares at sky* Yeah, they got the better legs.

SGU's Destiny supposedly traveled thirty-something galaxies in somewhere on the order of tens of millions of years, while stopping in each galaxy for some automated exploration and resource management. No idea if it stayed within the local group or if it picked a direction and headed out that-a-ways. Given that the show itself had them doing one galaxy per season ("year"), all we can say is there was an epic Sci Fi Writers Have No Sense Of Scale.

Title: Unseen Killer (wip)
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Consequences
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: Two unrelated gate trips combine to unleash devastating consequences onto an unwary SGC.

Unseen Killer )

Notes:
I tried to leave Jack out of this fic as I want to expand my writing horizons to the other characters. The story takes place while he is on medical leave after P3R-636. I managed to resist having him coming in after lockdown was lifted and getting jumped by a delayed-infected Sam. *cough* The unfortunate side effect is that Sam got left out of the fic too.

Title: Shifting Sands
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Neighborhood Watch
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary:

Shifting Sands )

Notes:
1. The 36 hour day that Abydos canonically had was too inconvenient for long term Earth human presence. So pretend that Ancient terraforming in these two timelines also adjusted the planet's rotation to approximate Earth's. As for the development of the Abydonians, that deviated in this timeline about 1000 years ago when they were placed under the Asgard Protected Planets Treaty.
2. Italics here refers to Abydonian dialect, mainly to contrast between when Daniel uses the translator and when it's off. The "modern" Goa'uld language is in bold. Thor's recording is also in Abydonian since it was programmed for the locals.
3. Although I thought about having the Abydonians mistake the Terrans for soldiers of Ra, I couldn't figure out how to fit the Eye of Ra into the plot. I would expect that SGC is already aware that the Eye is not just a decorative item, and it's probably locked up somewhere in Area 51.
4. The canon Hammer of Thor wouldn't have worked on Abydos since Ra didn't use Jaffa. So this Moljnor performs a Hall of Might type function instead.

Title: Storm Front (outline)

Fandom: Stargate SG-1

Summary: Back on Abydos, Daniel's curiosity gets the planet into trouble. But even as everyone scrambles to protect the planet, their problems is only a foreshadowing of what's to come.

1. The Abydos of this timeline deviated about 1000 years ago when they were placed under the Asgard Protected Planets Treaty.

Title: Murphy's Favored
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Shifting Sands
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: With Hammond in DC, Jack has been placed in charge of SGC. Unfortunately, between touchy alien visitors, snarky team leaders, and slimy NID observers, it seems as if the universe just has it in for him.

Murphy's Favored )

Notes:
1. I'm ignoring the trinium arrow shooting through bulletproof glass. Although trinium is strong enough, no human could have provided the force behind it (via bow and arrow).
2. Yes, this is the same Arthur Lee as in the series prologue/epilogue.
3. Here, Earth hasn't been directly attacked yet by the Goa'uld, so the need for self defense shouldn't as acute as in canon. That's why Lance can bring up a long term solution she had. And that's also why the NID's arguments sound more like they're motivated by greed than self defense.
4. I changed the looks of the Spirits aliens so they're less obviously humanoid and more, yknow, alien. I'm sure if Stargate wasn't constrained by a budget, they'd have done the same.
5. I glossed some parts since I don't want to just parrot the original episode dialog. Hopefully the chapter is still readable on its own.

Title: Drummer Boy (outline)
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Desert Bloom
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: Our heroes find out about the price of their success when a young boy comes through the stargate asking them to save another more advanced race.

Drummer Boy )

Notes:
1. The whole Reetou rebel idea of fighting the Goa'uld through attrition seems to be a really dumb idea for any gate-capable race to come up with, IMO. Unfortunately, I couldn't think of any better target for the rebel Reetou to attack, and still get Terra the TERs, so I went with it.
2. As to the fate of "Charlie"... the series just sort of never mentioned him after the Tok'ra took him. I might bring him back in a future chapter if dramatically appropriate.

Title: Diplomatic Solutions
Series: Alternative Destiny, immediately following First Step Forward
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: With the heady rush of success in extracting SG-2 from Goa'uld territory, the SGC now turns its attention to the missing SG-1 on P3R-636 and questions of what to do with the young Sodan warrior who helped out SG-2.

Diplomatic Solutions )

Notes:
1. I'm taking a departure from canon in my characterization of the Sodan. After 5000 years (though probably not that long in this timeline) of semi-isolation, self-rule, and studiously pursuit of the wisdom of the Ancients, they shouldn't still be a cardboard cut-out of Jaffa culture. Mixing Ancient ideology and Jaffa ideology, maybe something similar to the Shaolin stereotype of the wuxia genre (sans the celibacy bits)... Also, in order for them to successfully raid for symbiotes at the rate they must need them I assume they must have some kind of advanced intelligence system.
2. After much deliberation, Jack gets to be the first one with a death count in this timeline. Also made it a repeated death since "Frozen"/"Abyss" won't happen this time. I might as well get his quota of kills over with at once. As for Daniel...I'm sure he'll catch up in the death count somehow. Some things are just part of the character. (Oops...spoiler?)

Title: Out With a Bang
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Storm Front
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: It won't be a Stargate season finale without something blowing up in a spectacular manner. AKA, the more things change, the more clear it is who fate is out to get.

Out With a Bang )

Notes:
1. Poor Ra, with the timeline mangled and Earth trying not to get into a war, he still managed to die more or less on schedule anyway. :P
2. I'm not entirely sure I want to keep Kinsey around. He always seem to be too much of a caricature to me. But I left enough wiggle room to let him make a comeback if dramatically necessary.
3. The unknown ship is a hint at the next chapter/season to come.
4. I removed the references to elections since I've still undecided about which election schedule to use. Canon SG-1 has an election year that's 1 year ahead of RL. West Wing (still considering it) is 2 years ahead of RL.

Title: First Step Forward
Series: Alternative Destiny, following Exposition in a Can
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: Destiny's first interstellar mission is unexpectedly green-lighted for Heliopolis, while the first SG teams deployed off-world run into some trouble.

First Step Forward )

Notes:
1. P3R-636 is from the canon S2 episode "Need", where Naquadah mines were first seen (ignoring the movie, of course, since they never revisited the Abydos mines). I figure since they already know they need the stuff this time around, that planet will be scouted out sooner.
2. Chulak (P3X-237 here) was picked because that's where Hathor went in canon. Also, I needed a world with Goa'uld larvae for a first contact with the Sodan. Since Ra used human soldiers instead of Jaffa, Chulak was a good alternative and has some uses to setup future stuff.
3. The storms on Heliopolis in these timelines will not be annual. Mostly because I can't get the dates to align with canon. So we'll just have them occur at random... random meaning whenever our heroes need to be challenged by it.
