Summary: The SGC is back in business - bigger and better than ever - and so is its relationship with Abydos, the site of Earth's first off-world base.
Desert Bloom
Stargate Command, March 1997 CE
- Hammond and staff reading a new batch of recruits into SGC; giving tour
- they are on level 27 with briefing room and general's office
- gate moved to level 30 with huge embarkation room (enough to hold a gate shuttle); there's an access chute directly to surface
- they're getting an Earth-built gate shuttle coming in soon; based on Destiny shuttle & puddle jumper design; with fusion generator, sublight capable, crude cloak/shield, zat cannon; cheated on sensors (probes)
- gate control, emergency infirmary, quarantine labs
- level 28 has become ring room, and security station
- levels 28-30 all have separate life support and are capable of individual direct access & lockdown
- how did they get all this built without NORAD noticing?
- mostly using the rings for relaying equipment & loosened mineral; also newly adapted laser tech for help in digging w/o explosives (Destiny repair bots use some laser tech for manufacturing/repairs)
- cart goes by with shiny costumes - new protective gear for exploring potentially dangerous environments; also getting new ceramic based armor that resists staff weapons/zats
- Drake takes over tour; Hammond introducing Cap. Lorne to Carter; first of the military personnel that passed security clearance found with ATA genes
- the search has been slow due to many factors making up the ATA genes, and limitation of software; it's harder to find matches in the military DNA registry than it sounds
- they ring up to Destiny
- introduced to Jack (who's busy going over paperwork with Daniel)
- Daniel jokes/complains about the paperwork for having married offworld; Sha're has been made sort of ambassador on behalf of Abydos, so might be living with him on Earth mostly
- intercom requests them to the control room (bridge)
- Jack rings off the connection with Earth, informing them they're doing a quick supply run to Abydos
- has Lorne sit in the control chair and walks him through neural interface procedure to fly the ship to Abydos
- while the ship is on its way, explains that Destiny is just being used to save time so that only large stuff goes through the stargate
Abydos
- everyone rings down (rings have been moved to a defensible location on local base)
- Daniel greeted by Sha're; Jack by Skaara
- the base on Abydos is being expanded with miners and also a few other specialists to help educate the Abydos natives, investigate ways to improve desert farming, etc.
- tour through Abydos base and Abydos city
- Jack gets message from SGC telling him he's needed back immediately; takes Sam & Daniel with him (Sha're insists going with) and tells Lorne to fly the ship home
