Saving this one here because it can't be saved to playlist...

...and it's been removed for copyright. :p

Also for the record:
Las Vegas day 1 (songs only)
Seattle full
another New York
Toronto Day 2 (far view) day 2 (close)

The ones on bilibili are slowly also getting removed. But there's more people (re)loading their recordings.

Smaller snippets consisting of one or a few songs don't seem to be getting hit though. Seems to be mostly the full concert length recordings being affected.

Had fun yesterday. There is definitely a reason people want to hear LIVE performances in person. Though, I have to say that to me, Zhou Shen's voice is still very much him, and recognizably alike to his studio recordings. (I know this sounds like a non-sequitor, but I have heard claims from other fans who go to his concerts that hearing him in person is a lot different/better than digital recordings in many ways.) I do feel the extra energy coming from his live performance, and from the ambience in general, not to mention the extra volume due to the state of the art sound system plus his (pretty powerful) voice. Like, if he ever has another tour stop in California, I would definitely try to attend again. But, that said, I do still think studio recordings have their own charm, mostly in the area of repeated or relaxed enjoyment. Just sayin'.

Anyway, I recorded almost all of the performances except for the 邓丽君组曲, because my phone was throwing overheating warnings at me, and I had to give it a long-ish break. Ended up with over 25 GB of video files. I've uploaded them all to bilibili, because youtube and other US apps are much stricter with copyright.

Fair warning: Several of them involve sing-along bits, where you can probably hear my off-key screeching. =P During the performance, I couldn't actually hear myself due to the projection of the sound system (and hence didn't know how awfully I was singing :p). But my phone, being much closer to my mouth than the sound system, apparently picked it up just fine. At a cursory recall: 若梦, 小美满, 花开忘忧, 望, 灯火里的中国, Wala li longla, 好运来 all have bits of singalong.

Also, when recording 达拉崩吧 and 不想睡, I panned a lot into the audience, because I found that scene to be very interesting.

I didn't recording any of the talking and bridge sections, mostly to give my phone a bit of time to rest and cool. The talking bits were all really funny though, and I will probably look into collecting the full recap from other people's recordings.

On a different note, this trip to Las Vegas brought back deja vu from my trip there last year...

The hotel (Excalibur) was still pretty good. I had an even better time with it, because I figured out their app, and could do check-in/check-out remotely without having to get in the long lines at the lobby. Also, the app provides a digital room key, so I didn't have to hassle with physical keys that can lose their magnetism at the most inconvenient times. A recommend for anyone who is traveling to LV.

On the other hand, food and drink is still horrendously expensive for the portions offered. A small soda or juice charges like $6...ugh. In the future, I would like to check out the Chinatown in Vegas, because that's something I've only heard of this time when doing research on travel plans. Unfortunately, it was too far to visit this time, but I guess in the future, I'd like to check it out.

Finished the HSR story patch. I thought the storytelling was good in a structural sense. The banner characters for this patch were focused on and well developed. But not enough for me to change my pull plans to save up for 3.2. :p

There's not much to say beyond that. I guess my attention is being taken up too much by tomorrow's (today, technically) plans...

2.28 Las Vegas Concert Song List (more or less in this order? jotted down as recordings showed up on weibo/little red book)...

(Seems like Zhou Shen hasn't fully recovered from his illness. There were bits of him sounding a little hoarse starting from 《花开忘忧》. And I think he noticeably changed a lot of his vocals to be more towards bell canto than normal pop, which I guess is less influenced by this condition. Also, not sure if it also influence his choice to bring in 《灯火里的中国》&《好运来》... though the latter is somewhat appropriate in the city known for gambling.)

EDIT: Personal reference, subsequent song lists...

Also, ticket sales opened for the Australia tour today. Fans ended up breaking the AU ticketing app/site. XDXDXD

Good news rolling in this morning.

Zhou Shen posted an update from his weibo finally and looks to be in good spirits. I take it to mean that he's mostly recovered and that the US concert tour is still on track. Huzzah!! (*fingers crossed**knocks on wood*)

Also saw the news about his new album last near making the top 11 of IFPI (Billboard?) list. Which...uh...I have no idea what it is, but from reading posts about it, seems to be a fairly authoritative global sales chart for music albums or something. So yay?

In other news, the 3.1 patch for Honkai: Star Rail will be coming out next week. So we'll see how the story goes. Though, I forsee probably taking longer to complete it since I'll be away at Vegas the weekend following its release (*yay*).

I hadn't planned on pulling the banners for 3.1, but after the banner details came out, I will probably pull a bit on the Tribbie banner. Mostly because it's got 4 star Guinaifen on it, and that's one of the few 4 stars which I do sometimes use but do not have full E6 yet. I am hoping to be able to push her to at least E4 if not E6. Also, Tribbie I hear plays well with Castorice, which is coming up in patch 3.3 and I am planning to pull. We'll see how my luck runs on if I also manage to pull Tribbie while I'm at it...

Otherwise, I still want to save up for patch 3.2, which is looking to be the major splurge for pulls. It's got Castorice who I'm planning to pull because she looks pretty. Also Anaxa, the Odin expy, who also looks kinda hot, and also is wind AoE, which is a slot I still need to fill. Also, also, I hear rumors that Dr. Ratio will finally be coming up for rerun, and I still do want to pull his lightcone (for its bathtub art :p). So really looking forward to 3.2!!

London concert canceled last minute due to health reasons (flu). T_T

=( =( =(

*prays that the Las Vegas concert will still proceed as planned*

I won't even mind all the extra money I ended up spending on the tickets as long as it goes successfully. T_T

EDIT: Revisited my posts from last year around this time, when I came down with COVID at the end of Feb 2024. Symptoms started start of March, took pills and was fine by around the 12th. ZS's symptoms started on the 11th, so I am hopeful for recovery by the 28th. *fingers crossed* plzplzplzbeokay.

Posting this now that both US and CN are both on Jan 29th. :p

Addendums and rambling regarding this Live stage )

As for Zhou Shen's other performances on the provincial stations CNY galas, they're all high standard as fitting his ability of course, but nothing that really jumps out and wows me. So instead, I'll just rec some of his recent (non-CNY) songs that I liked.
《La Danza Del Dios Sol》 - Technically released last year, but putting it up as the foreshadowing of the CCTV performance above. Zhou Shen's spanish is better than what I've forgotten from my high school classes. XD
《好风起》 - Most brainwashing song this year yet. Also very easy to emphasize with, I think.
《敬时光》 - I found it just ok at first, but the song grew on me, especially the climax near the end. The MV is also very heartwarming.
《冰凌花》 - OST to a popular show with a very wow-worthy 苗族民歌 section in the middle. Rather appropriate since Zhou Shen is from 贵州.

Finally, on a non-Zhou Shen tangent, this particular robot dance performance on this year's CCTV CNY gala definitely worth mentioning. I am not sure how to describe it... RL implications aside and just looking at it artistically, I guess it is kind of funny in an eerie sorta way...

The good news is I have tickets to the Las Vegas concert on Sat! Will be meeting up with a cousin and her friend there and attending together.

I...really, really, really, really, really don't want to think about how much I ended up spending for this event. *lalala~have~amnesiaaa~*

Changing the subject...

So the Star Rail 3.0 patch started earlier this week. I am only about halfway through the story though. It feels longer than the Penacony arcs, and I saw complaints about the length from some, but I think it's fine.

I do like the maps better than Penacony though. Penacony gave me claustrophobia with so many closed in spaces, and the tilting rooms gave me motion sickness. This new planet has more open door areas and wide open spaces, which is more comfortable to look at.

Plot has barely gotten started. Character design is too early to say. I'll probably write a longer review later this weekend.

Oh, I am playing with CN voice and EN subtitles. Though, since many names are Greco-Latin, it seems like EN voice would be more appropriate, but unfortunately, the VA strike is still impacting the game. Especially, Dan Heng is not voiced in the EN version, and he has a lot of lines in this patch. So ah well. I'll see about finding youtube vids for walkthrough/cinematics in the EN version later, if only to hear how the voices of the new characters sound like in EN, and how the various proper names are supposed to be pronounced.

This is Ticketmaster during presale and general ticket sales. Note that Las Vegas venue is only 5k seats. -_-

I guess I am left with Stubhub or Ticketmaster resale at huge markup prices...

Because I don't expect the other venues to be any better, even if they are slightly larger. IIRC none of them exceeds the 20k seats of London's O2 arena, and that one sold out immediately too. T_T

EDIT: LOL, he's added another showtime for Feb 28 (the Friday before the above). Hoping this will bring resale prices down further for the Sat showing (which is still my preferred time) tomorrow.

Whoo, updates!

Las Vegas concert will be on March 1, which is a Saturday. Starts 8 PM.
Location is Dolby Live at Park MGM... which alas only has 5k seating. Hopefully it won't be sold out too quickly.
Tickets from Ticketmaster? Hasn't started selling yet but hopefully should come soon.

EDIT: Went ahead and booked Hotel at the Excalibur for Mar 1-2. Cancelation is free up to Feb 25, and I should know whether I have tickets by then.
EDIT2: Looks like advanced ticket ordering is available from stubhub...

Realistically, I'm only gonna be able to aim for the LV one unless I take the day off.

Zhou Shen announces world concert tour. I am looking forward to the one in Las Vegas, as that's probably the most convenient for me in terms of both plane and hotel. After that, both NY and Toronto are about 5-6 hour flights...assuming they take place on Sat, then leaving on Sat morning and then returning on Sunday should be doable too.

Trying to predict possible venues in Las Vegas, the most famous options would be The Sphere (17k seats) or MGM Grand (16.8k seats), though I can also dream of The Thomas & Mack Center (40k seats). I've been to the first two places, and transport is pretty convenient from The Strip. For The Sphere, there's also a connected walkway directly to The Venetian, which is a convenience.

EDIT:
London details are out. O2 arena has 20k seats. Ticket sales start Jan 9, and performance is on Feb 14, a Friday. Hm.

Zhou Shen's birthday livestream was awesome as ever. We actually got 5 songs of his album. The newest track 《虚构》 is threatening to break into my top 3, lol. Been also wandering around youtube and bilibili for the various Live performances of these tracks so far; here's hoping we get 《虚构》 at this weekend's Chongqing concert rounds. Though, for the most part, I actually prefer the studio versions of these songs over the Live versions. I guess it's because most of them are more suited for listening for details with headphones on.

That said, in my browsing, I did come across a lot of fanworks/remix/covers of these works that are pretty awesome. There are some seriously talented fans (or not even fans, just music lovers) out there.

First of all, here is a remix I saved in my memories folder all the way back when the first track came out. Using track 1's 《蜃楼》"Mirage" as BGM for a Wandering Earth 2 MV. The lyrics work really well with the digital life plot thread in the Wandering Earth series, and the editing is seamless. It also got a comment from the director of Wandering Earth in the comments section, so here's hoping Zhou Shen will get to collab with WE3 when it comes out.
Link: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Q1421U7Ah/

Being the oldest track out, this song also has several remixes with Honkai Star Rail. Of these, the first one is a slightly better quality edit IMO.
There's also a pure a capella cover which I found to be really well done.

Also from my saved folder is this half cover/half remix of 《Wala Li Longla》 and "Despicable Me". It feels... so very fitting. XDXDXD
Link: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1vFiMeaEaP/

There's also a remix of this song and Harry Potter.

Speaking of Star Rail, there's one more crossover, an Aventurine-centric remix with《警报》 which I thought was very well edited.
Link: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1gD421V7Uj/

Furthermore...
There is a content creator who has several songs which are a mashup of Zhou Shen's and another artists, and the latest one is 《重启》crossed over with Taylor Swift's "Fortnight". Second in the same playlist is another mashup with 《少管我》 and disco.
Then, 《记忆商店》has a few remixes, with 【自杀专卖店】 and 【漫长的季节】.
After that, 《嗨》 actually had a really hilarious short video as BGM for Yunnan mushrooms on weibo. Alas, the original clip is gone and I haven't been able to find copies of it anywhere. Aside from that, there's also a really awesome cover in French, by a French fan.
Next, we have 《缝合》× 【三悦群像】, though the editing isn't as good as the other ones above.
After that, 《空壳》doesn't actually have any remixes. I expect the last song 《虚构》 to be the same, as these two songs are very very much a gift/dialogue between the artist and his fans. So there's not a lot of room to remix it into other contexts.
Anyways, next in the list is 《没关系》, which has a remix with Disney's "Soul". Unfortunately, the editing isn't all that great. Just including it for completionism's sake.
Finally, 《请我不改》 has a remix with Black Myth Wukong, which is decently edited. There's also a short remix with the military that made me lol.

Finally, returning to the topic of fanworks, here's one more that's unrelated to the album. It's a rewriting of the lyrics to 《北京欢迎你》 to celebrate his concert at the Bird's Nest. A lot of memes and in-jokes that I suppose only fans would get. The idea behind it is quite moving.
tanithryudo: (Music)
I haven't done one of these for a long time now, haven't I? We'll, it is 9.29 in CN, so a happy birthday to Zhou Shen. Once again, I will be crawling out of bed at the wee hours of the morning to listen to his bday livestream. @_@

Today (in CN) also marks the day his second album 《反深代词》"Shenself" is fully released. Woke up this morning to find that Youtube music has updated with all of the tracks as well (for free!). My top favorites of this album are, in order:
1. 《空壳》 "Shen" - Love the melody, love the lyrics. It's a love letter from the singer to his fans, and one can feel the sincerity of his message. *squee*
2. 《嗨》"Say Hi" - Love the melody, very soothing, almost like a lullaby. He's very suited to this retro style.
3. 《请我不改》"Brave Heart" - Very surprising, since I'm not usually into rock. I love love love the refrain portion, both the melody and the lyrics, an absolute 12 out of 10. The main song portion less so, tone too low/gritty for my tastes, maybe just 5-6 out of 10. But when averaged out, it's still something I'll put on loop.

Recently, he's also finished the original set of cities for his concert tour (starting in Shanghai and ending in Beijing). There's still the later added cities of course. But this marks a good point to pause and look back. Lots of great performances, some of my favorites are...

As well as others like:
《我在贵州等你》, 《北京欢迎你》
《少管我》, 《嗨》, 《Wala li longla》, 《空壳》, 《请我不改》 (from his album)

And finally, I wanna bring up his various songs in collaboration with CCTV. IMO these are are a cut above in quality compared to the songs from various provincial TV station's musical variety shows, which is why I'm skipping those (and his many OSTs, lol), for lack of space, for now.

周深、克莱德曼合作中国经典《梁祝 The Butterfly Lovers》 |「2024央视秋晚」

《非遗里的中国》同名主题曲 | CCTV「非遗里的中国 第二季」

And just yesterday's release: 《心同此愿》 - Love the refrain on this one as well.
tanithryudo: (Music)
It's that time of the year again. Though this year not gonna stay up overnight to watch all the different galas for the various TV stations.

The CCTV gala has already come and gone. Zhou Shen made... 1 + 0.5 + 0.1 appearances? LOL. I actually liked the last one the best, because the dance is a feast for the eyes. Note 1: Zhou Shen's voice makes an appearance near the end of the BGM track. Note 2: Apparently this is a new version of the BGM he specially helped record for the gala. I thought it sounded different from what I remembered. XD

His other solo performance is also ok but not worth a post about. The song is kinda meh, but the panda and the kids doing qigong are cute. In any case, Zhou Shen can tick off the following on his list of CCTV CNY gala performances: duet song, solo song, group song, martial arts, dance. What do we have left? (Acrobatics, magic show, comedy skit...)
tanithryudo: (Music)
Oh-ho! The embedding from Bilibili works too if you change the iframe tags to embed!!
But how to make it so it doesn't autoplay?
Looks like you need to add &autoplay=0 at the end of the src url.

【周深】新歌《浮游》“流浪地球版”剧情MV -- While Zhou Shen did sing a theme song for Wandering Earth 2, this isn't the song. 《浮游》 is the theme song he sang for another xianxia romance drama. But, it fits quite well with scenes from Wandering Earth 2, doesn't it? XD

【周深】《璀璨冒险人》竟然是甲骨文! -- The song is the theme song for an anime series. The video it's being paired too.. well, you can tell from the title. Quite fitting, actually. I love this UP.

Example (replace {} with <>)
{embed src="//player.bilibili.com/player.html?aid=270918204&bvid=BV1Fc411K79a&cid=1122725109&page=1&autoplay=0" scrolling="no" border="0" frameborder="no" framespacing="0" allowfullscreen="true"} {/embed}

Some further videos from youtube, especially since Zhou Shen has had a lot of live performances lately.

青岛凤凰音乐节: "Heart of Peace"
tanithryudo: (Music)
Hahaha, guess I got distracted and forgot to recap Zhou Shen's performances for the CNY period. Compared to last year he had less performances in number, but more in...eh, status? Same number as in 2021, probably because both of these years he had a performance on the official CCTV gala, which means having to put aside a lot of time for rehearsals in the month leading up, and thus less openings to record for other galas.

Though compared to 2021 and 2022, there's no... I guess more comedically-toned performance this year. It's all srs bsns, but at least very beautifully performed srs bsns. However, there was one performance *before* the CNY galas, which was light toned, and that was in the episode that aired the Friday before for the Time Concert 2 show: 《好春光》. Very jazzy, very light hearted, well picked for the "new years episode".

Next up is my personal favorite among the CNY galas, a medley of 《望+故乡的云》. Now, 《望》 he's performed before and nothing new there, and besides only half of it features in the lead up to the real meat of the performance: 《故乡的云》. I really really liked his vocals in this one. *squee*

And then of course we have to mention the fact that Zhou Shen had his first solo performance on the CCTV CNY gala this year *clapclapclap*. (Actually this year I hear there are many more solo performances and by the younger generation of performers, than many recent years.) In addition, this solo performance is also of his single (no-OST, non-collab, non-dedication) 《花开忘忧》. (And then a few days later, CCTV also released an animated MV for the new edition; which even the original track didn't have, lol.)

And then there's the runner's up performances, which are still great but unfortunately can't compare to the above:
- Collaboration with 阎维文 of 《我的祖国》
- Performance of the OST 《人间星河》 for SMG, one of my recent favorites as well among his songs.

This is actually a prequel to Wandering Earth I, so not required to watch the first movie to get it.

And...huh, it's opening in US theaters the same time as in China. (Well, actually a day later given timezones, but both on the 22nd!)

We have guests coming on the 22nd though. So maybe the day after or so...

EDIT: Just checked the seating availability online, and it does look like there's a lot of people actually prepaid to go see it on the first day!

So I didn't really sleep last night. Stayed up to watch the many many 跨年晚会. And the... 8? performances by Zhou Shen split amongst 4 different stations.

The schedule/setup looked like this: )

Looking forward to being a zombie today. By anyway, the "winner" among the above performances IMO is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGy_0EMyeu4 (EDIT: now swapped out with official recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgB1uZbb0Mc -- it's even got english subtitles!!)

It's past 10 AM on Dec 31 in China, so I don't think there's going to be any more last minute surprises (maybe?)... There's still the 跨年 live performances pending, so I'm just going to count up the official studio released songs.

Total = 47 )

And if I were to give a list of my top 10 of the year right now, it would be the following. (A bit skewed towards the newer songs as the old ones have been looped so much they've gotten...old. =P)

请带着浪漫远航
流光
人间星河
田埂五月风 (填词版)
征途
我们一起远航 (collab)
