Had fun yesterday. There is definitely a reason people want to hear LIVE performances in person. Though, I have to say that to me, Zhou Shen's voice is still very much him, and recognizably alike to his studio recordings. (I know this sounds like a non-sequitor, but I have heard claims from other fans who go to his concerts that hearing him in person is a lot different/better than digital recordings in many ways.) I do feel the extra energy coming from his live performance, and from the ambience in general, not to mention the extra volume due to the state of the art sound system plus his (pretty powerful) voice. Like, if he ever has another tour stop in California, I would definitely try to attend again. But, that said, I do still think studio recordings have their own charm, mostly in the area of repeated or relaxed enjoyment. Just sayin'.
Anyway, I recorded almost all of the performances except for the 邓丽君组曲, because my phone was throwing overheating warnings at me, and I had to give it a long-ish break. Ended up with over 25 GB of video files. I've uploaded them all to bilibili, because youtube and other US apps are much stricter with copyright.
Fair warning: Several of them involve sing-along bits, where you can probably hear my off-key screeching. =P During the performance, I couldn't actually hear myself due to the projection of the sound system (and hence didn't know how awfully I was singing :p). But my phone, being much closer to my mouth than the sound system, apparently picked it up just fine. At a cursory recall: 若梦, 小美满, 花开忘忧, 望, 灯火里的中国, Wala li longla, 好运来 all have bits of singalong.
Also, when recording 达拉崩吧 and 不想睡, I panned a lot into the audience, because I found that scene to be very interesting.
I didn't recording any of the talking and bridge sections, mostly to give my phone a bit of time to rest and cool. The talking bits were all really funny though, and I will probably look into collecting the full recap from other people's recordings.
On a different note, this trip to Las Vegas brought back deja vu from my trip there last year...
The hotel (Excalibur) was still pretty good. I had an even better time with it, because I figured out their app, and could do check-in/check-out remotely without having to get in the long lines at the lobby. Also, the app provides a digital room key, so I didn't have to hassle with physical keys that can lose their magnetism at the most inconvenient times. A recommend for anyone who is traveling to LV.
On the other hand, food and drink is still horrendously expensive for the portions offered. A small soda or juice charges like $6...ugh. In the future, I would like to check out the Chinatown in Vegas, because that's something I've only heard of this time when doing research on travel plans. Unfortunately, it was too far to visit this time, but I guess in the future, I'd like to check it out.

Date: 2025-03-03 07:02 pm (UTC)Which reminds me, I was browsing on little red book yesterday, and I saw stories from many fans who reported that the lightsticks they got from previous concerts lit up in the duration of the Las Vegas performance.
I mean, these people were located in CN (lightsticks from last year's CN concerts and QQ store) or EU (lightsticks from the canceled London concert). There's too many people and the timing matches up perfectly to the duration of the Vegas performance for it to be coincidence and maybe getting some signal to some local concert or whatnot. And also, anecdotal reports indicate that fans located nearer to central China didn't see their sticks light up; the reports are more coming from people living on the borders...
But. As someone who works in the telecomm industry, I also have it hard to believe that the central control signal from Las Vegas could reach all the way to Europe and China, on nearly the other side of the planet!!! o_O
Anyway, what I am saying is, I am totally interested to see if my lightstick will activate by itself when Zhou Shen holds the Seattle concert on Wednesday, or the New York concert next weekend. XD

Date: 2025-03-04 12:00 am (UTC)They put a SIM in the glowstick? Anyway, is it possible they used a satellite to coordinate glowsticks and just used the same batch of SIM/receivers? I know there's a ton of civilian satellites these days, and a performance as big as Zhou Zhen's stuff could potentially be accessing the orbital telecom relays, so accidentally sending signals to all glowsticks made in the same batch or something...
Welp, wait and see!
(Speaking of, wouldn't Seattle concert be slightly more comfortable to attend given the milder weather? Or was the only tickets available in Vegas?)

Date: 2025-03-04 12:23 am (UTC)I bought the Vegas tickets for Saturday because Vegas is close enough for me to leave on Sat morning and come back on Sunday, so I don't have to take any time off. Seattle concert is middle of the week. New York's takes place on Sunday night, meaning if I went to that one, I'd have to take Monday off for the return flight.
(Of course, if I was still in between jobs, then this wouldn't have been a problem...)

Date: 2025-03-04 10:20 am (UTC)Ah, so job hunt went smoothly. Congrats!
Ok, makes sense. Probably Vegas would draw in the biggest crowds. Now you've got your videos to look back to fondly, yay!

Date: 2025-03-04 06:31 pm (UTC)It's a QA position. Doesn't pay nearly as much as I had with Cisco...but it also doesn't require as much work from me. >.> And also, I have other sources of income from rentals and etc. So it's as much just something to do to as anything.
(Also, the whole process of job searching in general is bleurgh.)

Date: 2025-03-10 03:59 am (UTC)EDIT: After watching one too many replays of the NY concert, I barely was able to stop myself from impulse purchasing a ticket for the following Saturday's Toronto concert. (Because there are flights from SFO to Toronto that get there Sat afternoon, and then fly back Sunday...nononoMustStopThinkingAboutIt. I really need to kick this habit of impulse splurging at the worst times. That is, I should pace my wallet and wait for next year. XD) Hopefully, the World Tour will become a regular thing. *fingers crossed*

Date: 2025-03-10 08:49 am (UTC)Alas! Well, at least you got a nice little memento. You can turn it on in evenings for atmosphere or something. XD
Crossing fingers the world tour becomes a regular thing, even if not annual. Maybe at least once very few years or so.
