Aftermath

Stargate Command, August 1997 CE

- O'Neill attends the general staff meeting (heads of all the SG teams and departments present)
- had a nice stay on Cimmeria chatting with the natives; likes mead and wonders if they can import it; also reports that the doctors are satisfied he's not compromised; wants to know what happened to SG-1; heard that the female captain from SG-1 survived her wounds but will be unable to serve on the front lines
- Hammond tells him she's been medical discharged and transfered to the Pentagon; the rest of SG-1 has been cleared of the death of Col. Drake since they were under the control of Hathor, but they've turned in transfers (and are under enforced counselling)
- No one's really happy about losing another SG-1 again; will take some time to replace the team
- as for the war, most of the Jaffa were fanatically loyal to Hathor and did not surrender after told she was dead; the few that did surrender or were zatted were exiled onto a planet that had the DHD removed.
- Daniel is disgusted with the deaths, but that's the reality of war; Sam gently reminds him they probably kill more than that on Ra's ships
- Hammond continues; due to having read in a bunch of people to the program for the very short war on Hathor, there's been some reorganization
- State Dept. will be attaching permanent liaison/ambassador presence to the base for future cases of negotiations
- review of the beta site that's been set up for mobile reinforcements, in conjunction with the backup NM site using the Antarctic gate
- Area 51 is awash in small bits of goa'uld tech brought in from Eskal; the remaining tech too big to bring in are being studied on the planet; Sam had fixed the shields and they've built a small temporary base there (meant for fast evacuation in case anyone shows up)
- there's three objectives from this point on:
1 - need to deal with Javabli and find out how much of a threat it is or if its natives really don't know how to use the tech on the planet; Daniel advocates diplomacy first since there are a lot of civilians there who are just being misled of what they're worshipping
2 - need to go through the database recovered from Hathor and find out what other planets she had controlled, and see if they can get anything from them before they realize Hathor is dead
3 - need to figure out how to deal with the so-called Tok'ra they captured; Jack admits the Tok'ra did help him kill Hathor, and is concerned about the NID messing things up; fortunately, the NID doesn't have sole oversight anymore; and the State Dept. rep is at Area 51 talking to the potential ally
- for now, SG-2 & 3 will be dealing with the Javabli

- Kawalsky has a talk with Ferretti about what happened to SG-1 and survivor's guilt; tries to talk him out of transferring
- Jack also joins them and tries to talk Ferretti out of transferring
- jokes about SG-1 being jinxed
- Ferretti agrees to lead a new SG team for a few months until its second has enough experience to merit a promotion and team leader position

Javabli

- SG-2 and SG-3 arrives on the planet
- wants to talk to the leaders of the people and gathers a crowd in the town square; setup a projector; a little nervous about playing bait
- announces to the populace that Hathor is not a deity and she's dead; projects the photos of her body to the people
- the village explodes; with some people calling blasphemy and some people calling miracle (not surprisingly, a lot of the native women don't like Hathor)
- a group of Jaffa enforcing Hathor's whims on the populace attack the team, but a shuttle decloak between them and the square, its shields blocking the shots
- another shuttle decloaks and fires on the Jaffa from behind
- the people panic and run from the shuttles; SG-3 go to secure the Jaffa
- SG-2 announce to the people that they're not here to take over and have nothing against the people here if they hold no enmity toward Earth
- the leader of the people ask if they're going to be Javabli's new gods and SG-2 assures them that they're no gods, only free men from the First World
- the Javabli leader promises not to think of the Tau'ri as the enemy
- SG-2 corrects them that it's Terra, and asks where Hathor kept her stuff so they can secure and make sure there's no remaining Jaffa or weapons that can be used against Earth
- the people tell them where Hathor's sacred places are and promise to stay away
- SG-3 toss the scavenged tech from the Jaffa onto the shuttle and join SG-2 for a flight over

Area 51

- Dr. Weir and Agent Maybourne lock heads over the treatment of the Tok'ra prisoner Mingala
- Mingala reveals that the Tok'ra are aware that Earth had been the ones to kill Ra, not the Asgard, and believe the rest of the System Lords will realize that soon too
- is also impressed that they've taken out Hathor, but thinks the humans are too overconfident in their abilities, because while Hathor is famous for her place in history, she hadn't been very powerful at the time she was killed
- Maybourne wants to know what kind of intelligence the Tok'ra have on the Goa'uld, and isn't wholly convince she is what she says she is
- Dr. Weir would like to open up relations with the Tok'ra if they are what they say they are
- Mingala refuses to take them to a Tok'ra planet as long as there's a chance they're a danger to the Tok'ra; also refuses to help them with technology because they're not ready for it
- Maybourne tells her that she'll stay in a cell until she cooperates
- Dr. Weir assures her she won't be mistreated (while glaring at Maybourne)

Stargate Command

- Sam and Daniel have deciphered the recordings that SG-2 sent back
- it seems there's a toxin in the general atmosphere of Javabli which is deadly to humans
- Hathor's giant pyramid is mainly to power a big shield around the region which filters the air allows her human servants to survive
- while they can study the data on the device, they can't take it apart and sent it over unless they want to kill the population there
- just then incoming transmission from SG-2 indicates they're under attack by insurgents and are hiding in the pyramid; also, it seems that the attack caused some damage and the systems are down; the transmission cuts off halfway
- Sam says they have to get it back up and running or else the people there would all die from the toxins in the air
- Hammond authorizes her to go on the rescue, but is stymied when they can't open a wormhole
- Daniel thinks they might have buried the stargate
- Jack immediately suggests taking Destiny over to rescue their people; which Hammond authorizes after some thought; but tells Jack he better stay on the ship this time

- After Destiny gets to the planet; shuttles are sent down with reinforcements to put down the attack, which they do easily since the natives only have a few staff weapons
- most of the other attackers are barely kids with pitchforks, and the defenders are told to only use stunners on them
- meanwhile, Sam and Daniel race against time to figure out how to fix the shield system and manages to get it back up
- the shuttle takes everyone back up, where Jack says that the orders from Earth (State Dept.) that they are to leave the planet be since they don't have the resources to occupy it against a hostile population
- Daniel is kind of sad on behalf of the people there, but Jack tells him they'll have to live with their choices

Notes:
1. We don't much see the cannon SGC deal with the aftermath of their actions, especially given all the System Lords they've offed in their career. I thought it would be nice to deviate from that here.
2. I thought it ironic, and funny, that the NID would get thwarted by a different foe than the SGC. Similarly, having dealt with the NID first, Weir might have a better impression of the SGC in comparison... maybe.
