Title: Frozen History (outline)
Series: Alternative Destiny
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Genre: Time Travel / AU
Rating: PG
Summary: The alternate O'Neill had reason to hate Antarctica. Unfortunately, a change in the timeline does not stop the frozen continent from being the jinx of his existence.
Frozen History
Antarctica, June 1996 CE
- Destiny One sent to Antarctica
- Sam & Dr. Michaels giving the tour on the way to the base
- excavation has been proceeding based on records and sensor readings from Destiny of where the original Ancient outpost was
- first thing found was the original gate; dated to a few million years; DHD already out of power;
- discrepancy with history of Altera presence in Avalon; Jackson thinks a wizard did it
- the main outpost is deep underground
- sensors found the part of it closest to surface and the dig was moved there
- they finally hit the edges of some kind of building but are having problems finding an entrance
- found some writings on the walls and requested presence of linguist (Daniel) and someone with ATA gene (Jack) to take a look
- Sam and Jack agree they're getting deja vu and bad feelings about Antarctica
- they go down very large tunnel to the edge of the structure
- Daniel trying to translate it; Sam trying to get readings
- the writings say something about manual override of the doors
- they try to follow the directions, expecting the door to open in front of them
- however the door is actually on the floor; drops open and the three of them fall through; door closes
- injuries... broken leg? arm? concussion?
- they land in the shuttle bay (with a single puddle jumper left)
- Sam tries to get the ship working; no response
- Daniel looks around and finds a communications archive room
- finds correspondence between Lantean returnees and Furling presence that was present at on Earth; can only read the Ancient part
- brings some samples back to try and read to Sam, but then gets dizzy/blurry due to concussion
- Sam still can't get the ship to work, although she thinks she has the power turned on
- there is some ambient heat inside the ship, so they bring Jack inside
- As soon as he touches a random panel, it lights up w/ Ancient; realizes it needs the ATA gene to activate (Sam remembers the files on puddlejumpers)
- Daniel insists on going back to get more communiques; Sam makes him stay with Jack and figure out the controls while she goes to get them
- Jack tries to fly the ship up despite injuries
- manages to get garage door open before they crash into the ceiling; zooms up tunnel (narrowly avoiding the people) and crash lands outside
- Jack wakes up in the local base infirmary
- banter
- the communiques Daniel brought were 3000 years old
- Lantean communique indicates Furling involvement in fomenting rebellion on Earth against the goa'uld c. 5k years ago; also indicates Furlings had removed some indigenous people for preservation in case they failed; after the Lantean return the Furlings decided to end their involvement/caretaking of Earth (as payment of unspecified favor done for them in the past)
- Daniel's next project will be to try and decipher the Furling parts of the communique
- Jack will be on medical leave (again) and Sam will be in interim charge of Destiny
Followed by Connecting the Dots
Notes:
1. I don't want to deal with the issue with Ayianna or the weapons platform yet (that's being saved for later, maybe), so a simple workaround is to have Destiny tell SGC to dig somewhere else. I'd hate to think the major outpost of the Ancients and practically one of their capitals would be as small as the bit we saw on TV, so let's just say it was just a small bit of the whole thing.
2. Jack's and Sam's dislike of Antarctica is, of course, mainly due to the influence of their alternate selves. Of course, given that they won't have good experiences in this timeline with the place either, I'm sure they'll start forming their own reasons to dislike it.
