tanithryudoInternet was almost dead last night. Took about 30 mins just to get 5 clovers - that's how slow it was. So I copied this update to a flash drive and am uploading at work.
These are shorter snippets and they sorta go together anyway. And no, I still have no plot. This fandom is pretty hard to write for. :-/
Cabin Fever

“That’s sick Hattori.”
“What, readin’ the papers?”
“You’re reading an article about your own ‘death’.”
“Just tryin’ to solve the case for myself, since I’m goin’ crazy being holed up all day.”
“You must be bored.”
“The dead body must’a belonged to the arsonist Otaki-han mentioned a while back.”
“They must have been hoping to frame your death on him.”
“…”
“…”
“Aarrgh! Kudo! Help me! I gonna go nuts if I have to stay in any longer!”
“Don’t be a baby. It’s only been two days. And you know why you can’t go outside.”
“…I think I’m gonna go into withdrawal if I don’t get a real case to solve.”
“…”
“…”
“You haven’t gotten any further on that file either, have you.”
“…Shut up, you.”
“Heh.”
“Hey, maybe you can call your mom over and she can disguise me again—”
“Baka. I’m out of here.”
“Oi! Kudo!”

AN: Because we all know asking Heiji to stay in one place for a long time is sheer torture. Hm. I wonder if this counts as character torture. If I meet my quota here I don't have to torture him overly much later. Maybe.
Mada Mada Dane (I)

“What are you grinning about, Kudo.”
“Why are you so grumpy?”
“Why you—”
“Haibara! Hattori! Stop that.”
“Tch. Brat.”
“Didn’t you have something to tell him, Kudo-kun?”
“Hattori, we got a reply back on that message we sent to Osaka.”
“Yer kidding me! There’s no way that girl coulda figured it out so fast.”
“Ah, actually, she didn’t. Here.”
“…”
“…”
“So? What does it say?”
“I thought you weren’t interested, Haibara.”
“That was before it evoked such an interesting reaction from Hattori-kun.”
“That damned oni…”
“Heh. Decoded, it reads: Your stupidity will get Kazuha in trouble. Lie low and let the police do its job. –Your father.”
“Oh my. I thought you had communicated a sense of secrecy to Kazuha-san about the message.”
“Yeah, well, my guess is that Toyama-san and Hattori-san had already been anticipating something like this.”
“THAT GODDAMNED SLY FOX OF AN OGRE…!!”

AN: Well, in the end, I decided against having Heiji's friends & family think he's dead or go without any news of him for the entire black org thing. While it would be more scary for the eventual reckoning the other way, I decided that Heiji probably won't go that path. Hey, I mean, he's the one who's been saying Shinichi should tell Ran the whole truth since from the beginning, after all.

“O-Okasan?! How did you—”
“Hey! Kudo-obasan!”
“Now, now, Heiji-kun, I told you to call me Yukiko-san.”
“Hattori! Did you call her here—”
“Oi! Kudo, what do ya take me for?”
“Now, now, Shin-chan, don’t take your grumpiness out on your friend. If you must know, Yuusaku asked me to come here. He said that you might need some help disguising your friend again.”
“Yes! Freedom! Kudo, yer dad’s awesome!”
“I’m the awesome one! And stop twitching like that, Shin-chan; it’s not polite.”
“Okasan… you mean to tell me Otousan figured out that Hattori was alive and hiding out with me just from the Japanese news in LA?”
“Ara… yes? He had me bring over some books he’d gotten lately on cryptography and computer espionage too.”

“Oi Hattori.”
“Yeah, Kudo?”
“I won’t make any more comments about your dad if you don’t about mine.”
“Heh. Deal.”

AN: Because no matter how awesome they are, the boys are still owned by their fathers. Even if they have to take a character shield hit for that to happen. :-/
