San Diego - Zoo (backdated)
Nov. 28th, 2008 06:16 pmWe were able to get to the zoo at about 1 PM and stayed until it closed at 5. Unfortunately, during the last two hours, a lot of the animals (mostly the mammals) all went to sleep, so it was difficult if not impossible to get pictures of some of them (like the polar bears, the grizzly, the red panda, etc.)
I did however get an inordinate number of monkey photos, largely cuz we got lost around the area of the monkey trails and spent maybe an hour getting back on track. -_-
Anyway, the photos...
My first stop was of course straight to the pandas. Here is Gao Gao, the proud papa bear.

The other two pandas who were out for exhibit that day were Zhen Zhen and, I think, Su Lin. One was eating away also, while the other was napping in a tree over the heads of the spectators. It was quite difficult to get a shot of that one.

This tiger was catnapping off on a highrise, also making it impossible to get a decent photo of him/her.

The African (I think) fishing cat, which supposedly has webbed feet it uses to swim and catch fish. Couldn't get a pic of the feet unfortunately.

And then the monkeys, monkeys, monkeys. Don't ask me what the ones in the first pic were doing. There was a lot of pointing and giggling going on from the people taking photos. There was also a monkey who was fed a piece of hard candy by some inconsiderate visitor, and was just sitting there, eating and spitting out the candy over and over again. Unfortunately I couldn't get a good shot/video of that one.
Nile alligator

The Caribbean flamingo this time... (which seems to resemble the GW flamingos more than do the African ones. Even though Elona is supposed to be based on Africa. :P)

Caracal, sleeping

Puma, pacing to and fro in front of the visitors

Hyenas, also sleeping

Koala, doing the teddy bear impression
