tanithryudoWatched 3 eps today. All Methos eps, of course. I just wuv wuv WUV him, the dearie. *hearts Methos* ^_^
Deliverance:
This was the second part of a two-parter, but the first part doesn't have Methos in it, so like I care. Basically, in part one, Duncan takes a Dark Quickening, which means that he gets overwhelmed by a so-called uber-Evil quickening and takes a trip to the dark side, so to speak.
This is also the fic that perhaps spawn the most Duncan/Methos slash, especially the darker ones. *grin* But, I mean, wow. There was some chemistry there.
It's also interesting to see the ep with knowledge of what happens in the Horsemen arc next season. Even the producer people mentions that in the interview. Yeah, Methos would be totally the right person you'd get to handle Duncan in his present condition. After all (foreshadowing), who else would be able to emphasize and understand Duncan's position? Who else would know of the evil in men's hearts and how to defeat them? Of course, Methos conquered his own evil side way back in the past via a much longer and harder path than Duncan does. But then again, I also agree with Methos when he tells Duncan that "you're deluded" when Duncan starts going off on how EvilEvilEvil he is now and how much ScaryDarknessEvil is inside him.
Quite frankly, though, (and I'm not the only fan to think so) I don't think Duncan's DQ-mentality was anywhere near as Evil as he thought himself as. I mean, based on his actions... he's depraved, yes; he's petty, yes; he's horny, sure; he's got poor impulse control when it comes to violence, yep. But evil? Nah. Unless being turned evil also lowers your IQ by a few dozen points, and does a lobotomy on your common sense. Quite frankly, he was more of a thug; scum, than some kind of embodiment of Evil.
But that would make sense given Duncan's character, wouldn't it? The man clings to the ideals of chivalry like they're in his blood. He's also got a pretty black-n-white view of the world. Either you're evil or your good. And of course it's the sacred duty of "Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod" to go around and fight those evil dastards he comes across. I'm sure he *thinks* of the persona that he had become under the influence of the DQ as Evil. But really... it's not. He's over-compensating, IMO. He's really more just mentally unstable with weird DQ impulses driving him than truly *Evil*. Dark Lord Sauron he is not. Heck, even mortal evil (Hitler, etc) he is not.
But back to Methos. Yeah it makes a lot of sense that the oldest Immortal would know how to find a cure (or at least an aid) for Duncan's condition. However, the fangirls would probably pay much more attention on just how much he knows exactly which buttons to push with Duncan to eventually get him to come with him. I mean, wow, Peter Wingfield got some fine lines of dialogue, and he says them so very *well*. We also see just how much Duncan trusts his "friend", even in his madness. I think I squea'ed the moment when Duncan willingly gave his sword to Methos. The emotion and symbollism... just... wow. Yeah, it's easy to see where the slashiness comes from. ^_~
Methuselah's Gift:
Another awesome Methos episode. I like how they keep up the suspense all the way until the end about just who sent the killers after Amanda. All along, it never truly exonerates Methos, even though you understand and emphasize with his goal and you just hope and pray it wasn't him. Still, the doubt and suspicion is always there until the resolution. I thought that was a masterful bit of directing - making the audience (or at least the fangirls) root for Methos at the same time we're biting our nails in trepidation wondering if he has crossed the line.
Peter Wingfield got some awesome lines in this one too. And he delivers it with so much heart and emotion. I seriously was crying in the scene at the train station when he was yelling at Amanda. It was just so heartbreaking. *sniff*
"You think it takes courage to do what we do? Face another Immortal with a sword knowing only one of you will live? You try being her! You try living one year knowing that your time is running out, knowing that when it comes to the final fight, however much you train, whatever tricks you have — you still lose! That's the way it is for them!" -- Methos on speaking of mortals.
*heart aches* Oh the poor man. So much love for so many people, and always getting hurt. *bawls*
And also, there was one cute scene amongst all the angst, drama, and solemnity. That was when Methos and Amanda break into the Watcher's Headquarters, trying to navigate all this advanced security, when...
"meow."
Methos: "I'll get the cat." *follows cat while whispering furiously* "Not the carpet. Not the— Nice kitty. Nice kitty. Come kitty. No! Not the alarm!"
Well he did get the kitty. And the kitty did at least save the day for one of them (for a while). Go kitty! ^_^
Till Death:
Till Death was another one of the more humorous episodes. Features a couple of really good flashbacks back into Duncan's misspent youth, wherein we see the portrait of our hero as a bumbling, besotted boy who really ought to just give up... if it weren't for the fact that his (and his friends') antics provide so much amusement.
I also found it funny that apparently they had microphones back during the French Revolution. I mean, when they were tring to rescue Robert from the guillotine, you hear in the background some peasant annoucing that "so-and-so is to be executed for blah blah"... except it sounds like the announcement was coming out of an airport intercom or something. "Calling flight 42. Calling flight 42." Heh... I think the sound department goofed on that one.
I also thought the female main character for the ep sounded so fake. I can't tell if it's because she really has a thick accent and is only trying to make her English sound intelligible for the audience, or if she's trying too hard to put on a fake accent. Whatever it was, the effort of her trying to speak detracted from the delivering of her lines, imo.
But that's all whatever. We all know Methos is the only important consideration in the show. And I think this one also has some slashy hints - in a domestic sorta way. Just love the way Methos just moved into Duncan's place and... well... basically made himself at home. Hah. And Duncan didn't even give a token protest. And that scene where Methos is just *lounging* down on the couch next to Duncan with his legs splayed just so? So, much, subtext. So, very, hot. *drools*
