(These are all also posted at

I was surfing at digitalblasphemy for cool wallpapers, when on a lark I did a search for some of the programs those artists use to make theirs. I discovered two of them which are freeware available online - Terragen and World Machine.
So I tried them out. World Machine works too slow on my computer (I need more RAM), but I made the following landscape with Terragen, and then edited with Photoshop. This is a reduced 800x600 wallpaper. Anyone who wants the 1024x768 one, just drop me a note.

Misc. Notes: The inspiration for this wallpaper is the planet Vulcan from Star Trek. Vulcan is a very arid desert-world, with a Mars-like reddish cast to the ground hues. The most diffcult part was getting the skies to match the dark-reddish hues of the ground, since the standard setting was a very light blue Earth-like setting. Getting the exact shades to match without looking too fake or destroying the cloud details was a challenge. The most famous landmark of Vulcan is Mt. Seleya, which is why the mountains are there in the background. There may be a little bit more patches of green vegetation that Vulcan is known for, but taking out too much of it make the scenery look too bland. The sun-size might be a bit too small, but with the lighting effects and with it behind the mountains, I don't think it's too noticeable. All in all, pretty good for a first try.
Also, here are two Kagaya wallpapers I made a couple of days earlier. Again, talk to me if you want the original high resolution 1024x768 versions.
