Star Rail character build update

My "main" or favorite character Dan Heng (dragon version) is pretty much done with the building! Of course, for perfectionism, ideally I would like a few points more speed to meet the 121 breakpoint, and slightly more crit rate to hit the 1 CR : 2 CD ratio...but the chances of getting that through relic RNG is too low to bother. Also, I currently don't farm the musketeer set on purpose, so no consistent way of getting potential replacements anyway. Plus, eidolon 2 lets him advance turns on ultimate use, so speed is less useful.

My other favorite, Jing Yuan, is also tentatively "done". He meets all of the minimum endgame recommended stats. Of course, I am also thinking about dropping some of the speed stats and switching to ATK boots + Inert Salsotto ornaments, and then pairing him with speed boosters like Bronya or Asta to make up for the speed loss... But that would also restrict team building quite a bit. So not sure if it's worth trying to go down that path.

Also, since I am farming the Ashblaze/Prisoner relic sets, might as well put up the other characters that also use the same EQ.
Topaz: CR and CD both too low. Need better stats on the ornaments (keep farming Inert Salsotto). May consider swapping boots to Speed if other EQ pieces can get more CR & CD.
Himeko: Still undecided between the Inert Salsotto and Rutilant Arena ornaments, but currently don't have enough crit rate for the latter. Not going to try for Firmament set, so I guess more speed stat isn't too critical. But both CR and CD need to be raised more.
Guinaifen: ATK stat too low (need 2600+), but then, not all pieces have been leveled to max yet. Speed could also stand to be upped a bit to hit the 143 breakpoint, a matter of just maxing the shoes.
Sampo: ATK stat also too low (need 2800+). Speed should be raised to hit 143 breakpoint. EHR needs to be maintained above 80% which is fine at the moment.

Date: 2024-06-04 04:25 am (UTC)How complicated would you consider the math behind optimizing? Like, is there an obvious "best" strategy, or is there more variation on terms of style?
I'm trying to figure out if it's worth getting into Honkai: Star Rail. Honestly not sure if my internet connection can handle it, but if there's auto battle, I feel like it shouldn't strain the system too much...

Date: 2024-06-04 06:38 am (UTC)I just follow the stat recs on the commonly used website. And even then, I'm also adjusting for convenience rather than optimization sometimes... (For example, for DHIL it recommends the Wasteland EQ set, but the dungeon for that set doesn't produce anything usable by my other characters, so I stick with using the more common Musketeer EQ set on him, since I have a lot of those pieces and some are bound to have good stats.)
Star Rail is turn based, so I don't think internet connection matters too much. Very few battles turn into a long term affair unless you specifically make it so (like a team of all healers/protectors for the lulz). Admittedly, I play on PC, so I don't know how much of a strain it is on mobile or tablet resources; that's probably more a matter of the graphics engine.
Strategy wise... it's more about team building and synergizing, mostly. So in most cases, especially starting out, you would start building teams around a damager type character, preferably a 5-star pull. Then figure out which supports go best with it. Then start working on the B team. And so forth. Technically the F2P 4-stars are sufficient to pass all story content and farm content, and maybe 50-80% or so of endgame content like Simulated Universe and MOC/PF (depending on how much effort you invest in gear).
If you do start playing, let me know!

Yeah, I'm probably not going to start on it 'till after the visit back to the States, but I do plan to play on PC rather than on tablet/mobile because uh...my phone is pretty outdated at this point. I've been looking for something to plug the FF14 hole, mostly because the internet is too crappy for me to run MMOs, so this sounds like it could be a good compromise...
Do you play on Steam or is there an independent install? Also, is the English and Chinese version the same size? Or even the same servers?

Date: 2024-06-04 06:53 am (UTC)I figure if I want to know what the CN version sounds/reads like, there's tons of playthroughs on bilibili I can browse.

Date: 2024-06-04 06:56 am (UTC)Holy F...41 GB?! Will I have to download the entire thing in one go? Geh...
OK, gonna have to see what the download upper limit is on the internet service I have over here...
Edit to add: OK, so I'm seeing that there's a cloud version, which means no need to install (?)... but I need an account. I'm starting to wonder if it's worth trying to get a CN account or if I should get an English account instead...
Edit2: So it seems the download bit is the biggest hurdle for me, because my internet speed is so effing slow that downloading 41GB is gonna take days...
