Windows 11
Mar. 9th, 2023 09:20 amMy work computer auto updated to Win 11 last night.
Still getting used to the new UI.
Not too much changes so far... At least, I was able to find all my stuff.
EDIT: I mean, yeah, there's a bunch of annoying stuff in Win 11. There was a bunch of annoying stuff in the upgrade from XP to Win 10 too (like the pretty glossy transparent themes). There's not much that can be done other than to live with it and try to look for workarounds.
List of annoyances:
- Taskbar can't be moved to top/side of the screen anymore.
- The clock app, both taskbar and app itself, does not show seconds anymore
- Notepad by default displays all files in one window (like notepad++ does), and when you set it to open in individual windows, the preview from the taskbar does not show the filename of the opened files.
- The snipping tool: when you snip a pic now, it doesn't remain on the top and automatically save the image to clipboard. Instead you have to click on the app from taskbar again to bring the clipped image up and manually click the copy button.

Date: 2023-03-12 11:29 pm (UTC)I have to say, I'm hating win11 UI. First, the lack of ability to move the taskbar is really bothersome, since most screens these days have lots of horizontal real estate but much more cramped vertical real estate. Second, there's the centered windows task bar, which at least I was able to shift back to being on the left, but was still an annoyance to have to bother with. Third, using the same icon aesthetic for non-executables (like multi-desktop) and executable programs alike makes the UI more difficult to learn. Finally, the lack of consistent scroll bars (like, certain apps have a skinny bar, others have this dot-thing, and others have traditional windows scroll bar) just looks bad.
But welcome to win11 ecosystem.

Date: 2023-03-13 01:47 pm (UTC)As far as I can tell, there's no theme or setting to fix the problem as it's a Windows 11 bug/feature that is working as intended. This article explains in depth all the problems with Win11 UI. The bit about scroll bars I've copy-pasted:
