Apparently it doesn't like overseas phone numbers. Or maybe just not mine.

Also doesn't like wechat. Or weibo. Because the option to login using those apps don't work. T_T

Nobody I know of in China wants to help me set up an account either. T_T

P.S. Can you not register TikTok instead? Does TikTok and Douyin not have cross region stuff, seeing as they're the same service?

Yeah, tiktok and douyin are different services hosting different content. It's like how games like Nikki or GW2 are completely separate between China and the rest of the world.

Well...you could always try getting a Chinese SIM card next time you visit China? Then you'll have a mainland number you can use.
