Some enterprising fan translated a Cap/IM fanfic into Chinese. I can tell it's not a google or babelfish bot-type translation. I can also tell whoever translated it might be fluent in formal Chinese but hasn't entirely gotten the handle of colloquial expressions.

But the most striking thing? They left "Steve" and "Tony" in the original English, but translated "Captain America" to... "美国队长". I can only imagine what "Iron Man" would be if that moniker had featured in the original fic.

*snicker* *snort*

I'm pretty sure the Chinese translated Iron Man to "铁人". So...yeah.

I guess heroic monikers just don't translate well. If you look at the various wuxia heroes translated to English, there's similar hilarity/ridiculousness most of the time too.

To be fair tho', do you really want to read a fanfic with main characters named 托尼 and 史蒂夫?

o.O

I can see why said fan kept the original names. (Mostly because I've had it up to here with seeing "克洛德" instead of "Cloud" in FFVII fanfic, so...)
