"The Na'vi saw the stars, and accepted that Eywa determined they could never go there. Humans saw the stars, and laid their lives down so that others could touch them."

Avatar fic, of all things. Let's face it, the only reason I'd read something in this fandom is because another author I liked and respected for the seriousness of their fic recc'ed it. Otherwise, I categorically dump all Avatar fics in the realm of LOTR-movie-sue-fics.

While it doesn't take much to have a better story/plot/etc. than the movie, this fic was rather good. The best thing I like about it is the way it characterizes humanity.

I refuse to read that on principle. The movie has too many things wrong with it and I don't really care about characters enough to want to find fic.

Speaking of, Crimbo content starts on the 14th this year. There's a Crimbopolis thing, but that's in the clan dungeons and I have no access. *sad face*

Well, the fic is significantly more pro-humanity in it than the standard fare Avatar fic (or even the canon itself).

Yeah...no. Avatar's problem is that it continues proud tradition of "superior white male" motif that's been plaguing Hollywood since conception and really, there's no winning here. It's not about being pro-humanity, it's about why the fuck is it always the Caucasian male saving the fucking day?

There's too many problems with canon on a meta level that makes it by default the fanfic is going to have meta problems, no matter how they spin the story. So yeah.

Ah that. Well, I guess the reason mainly is because their primary audience is the Caucasian (US, specifically) market.

For non-Caucasian heroes saving the day there's always anime, Hong Kong flicks... or Bollywood. XD
