Windows 7

So we got Windows 7 installed on a VMWare partition on one of our lab servers (gotta love corporate licenses) and I got a chance to briefly browse through it.

- Display format is Vista... that seems to be the main downside as I really don't like the way the new My Computer works to find directories.

- The built in picture viewer IS THERE. It's got a different name but it does the same thing as the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. It will flip through pictures in the directory with the page up/down buttons like normal, so reading manga is not going to be a problem.

- You can run applications as Windows XP/2000/95/etc. compatibility-mode. I'm not sure if you can install apps in compatibility mode, as we didn't have any older apps which we know can only be installed on an older OS, but tentatively speaking, it doesn't look like most apps will have problems running.

- My colleague swears it runs much faster than Vista. I haven't played with Vista much so I'll take his word.

*pokes cashew* - Let me know if there is anything else you want me to verify on it. Not sure I can attempt to install GW on it since I don't think it has full access to the internet from the lab. But I can probably test install small local apps if I remove it before I logout.

I love you. *__*

Actually, if you could, can you try out to see if CDisplay (http://www.toggle.com/lv/group/view/kl39723/CDisplay.htm) would work installation wise on Win7? (The program's pretty tiny and if it works, I would feel much better about switching over.) Ideally, I'd check other programs, but I figure I could always just switch to the brick of pain laptop for stat stuff and I already know the pirated copy of Office would work. Because if this works, I just may try to get a laptop over Black Friday (crazy, I know). Not to run GW, but just so I can work from my office instead of taking up lab space while I'm reading pdfs and being all blaaaarge.

(Stuck in lab, puttering around being useless. Should be reading but amuse me? :P)

I'm hoping that if the laptop's cheap enough, I can get a full system docker (with a normal keyboard, gasp) and consider even a new external hard drive, since my old one is starting to fill up a bit. (And by a bit I mean I have less than 100GB left on a 250GB HD.) Need to check funds first tho'. *whimpers*

I wish you where here to help. :p

CDisplay installs successfully and looks like it runs without any problems. (I'm not exactly familiar with all that it does so I only tested basic picture viewing capabilities).

CDisplay is my default manga reader, since it'll allow me to fullview pages for the tiny editor's notes and stuff. It also makes reading easier on a small screen, and it allows reading of compressed files, allowing me to keep my manga well organized via zips instead of having a shit ton of folders. So yeah. :p
