Got dragged off to skiing with friends of my mom's for two days/one night, and just got back home. My arms ache, my ankles are sore, and I have bruises all over my legs.

Meh.

Edit:

Ok, after dinner and a hot shower, I feel much more human. So to recap the whole ordeal...

Yesterday morning we left at some ungodly time in the morning and drove 3 hours to the ski place. I think it's located somewhere near Yosemite. I managed to crack a nail installing the snow chains (which, IMO, we really didn't need given the majority of road conditions, but the US forestry service said otherwise, in huge signs).

We arrived at the ski place at around 12. Had a quick lunch at the cafeteria there. Then checked out some cross country skis. Of course, having absolutely no training, I fell a lot. That's where the bruises came from. On the bright side, the number of times my hand met cold snow meant that I didn't need a cold compress for my cracked (and previously bleeding) nail.

Place closed at 4, so we drove over to the cottage/inn place we were staying at. It was 3-4 family sharing the house, and the adults mostly knew each other before. So dinner was traditional Chinese potluck, which was ok. The cottage itself was a quaint wooden place that looked pretty new and clean. The downside, of course, was (1) no internet, (2) no cellphone reception, and (3) the family with all the kids had the upstairs room right above where my family was rooming, so it was thump-thump-creak-creak all the way while trying to go to sleep at night and while trying to avoid waking up in the morning. Bah humbug.

Then this morning we got up and were persuaded to sign up for a beginner's class on the downhill type of skiing. While I didn't fall down as much on those skiis, I still disliked it more than cross country cuz I wasn't able to get anywhere, and because it required monster boots. I spent the whole morning with my ankle getting rubbed sore, and my circulation to my feet cut off somewhere around my lower calves. Thankfully, in the afternoon, I was able to switch back to cross country skiis.

Then another long 3 hour drive home. In the dark. While trying to avoid falling asleep at the wheel due to the problem with sleeping last night as aforementioned. And I have work tomorrow when most companies are shut down. Boo.

Whut? That sucks superly. *hugs*

Ski trip sounds amusing, from a bystander's perspective. This is why I don't ski, I sled. >w<b How's the finger coming? Still hurting?

The finger is fine now. I guess the excess of cold and snow helped.

Sledding is when you have some kind of flat or tub-like surface and you lay in it when you slide downhill? I saw a little bit of that too, though they don't use the same hill as the skiers.

Still, ouch on the finger. This is why one cuts one's fingernails pre-messing with the car.

Yeah, we used cafeteria trays to slide down hill. Some of the hills were pretty steep, scared me a bit, especially when I was spinning out of control. Somehow I still managed to keep my head intact. Also, I think sledding and skiing probably don't mix all that well, considering how little control sledding has and er, well, skiing is dangerous already.

My fingernails were cut, just the day before we left. T_T

So, when are you gonna take a shot at installing snow chains and sharing your tales of woe? :P

(BTW, was it my imagination or were you up late on GW last night? How's Ring of Fire coming?)

Actually, there's no more snow. No need for chains. :p

(Not your imagination, I was pissed at RoF and needed to do that shitty quest and get it over with. Finished it off, then I afk farmed candy cane shards, except I keep forgetting to return to the screen so I ended up standing in the dungeon for over an hour while I read fanfic. *facepalm* Only has 20+ shards right now. T_T)
