tanithryudoBackground: ANet had a promotion for a GW Bonus Mission Pack - if you spent more than $30 in their online store between early July and the end of Oct, then you would get a set of bonus mission stuff with some unique rewards come Nov. The promotion was slapped in huge letters on the login page of the game with links to the info so I don't see how anyone could have missed the info on how to qualify, etc. Now that the BMP has come out and the people who got it are waxing poetic/gloating over the pretty rewards from the bonus missions, the forums have started to overflow with vitriole/flamewars from the people who didn't get the BMP for some reason or other. After reading some of the same old arguments over and over, I thought I'd vent my response here...
1. To the people who say they have bought all campaigns+PvP unlock packs at the original high prices+X character slots and therefore should automatically be entitled to the BMP for free as a reward for being a loyal customer blah blah blah -
Learn to understand the difference between a reward and a promotion.
2. To people who say they bought EOTN at retail stores cuz they wanted the box/it was cheaper/they don't trust online shopping/whathaveyou and feel you should still automatically get the BMP just because they paid for EOTN -
Please take another look at the requirements that was outlined to get the BMP that had been up for FOUR MONTHS, and learn to read. It is not ANet's fault that they did exactly what they said they would do, no more, no less. You made a choice when you bought from a retail. Live with it.
3. To people who say they couldn't get the BMP because they are minors w/o credit cards and couldn't get an adult to buy for them -
It's not ANet's fault that your parents said "no". It is not ANet's responsibility to offer just for you and those like you a way to get around your parents saying "no". Learn to accept the fact that as long as you are financially dependent you are not guaranteed to get that shiny toy just because you want it. That is not the seller's/company's/manufacturer's fault.
4. To people who say they couldn't afford it back during the promotion, or just got into GW after the promotion ended, and still want the offer to be open -
Well, we would all love stores everywhere to have Black Friday sales everyday too for those of us who missed the sales last week due to some reason or other (family obligations, works, car broke down, etc.) but we don't live in a fantasy land here.
There are other idiotic arguments of course, but the above are the ones I've seen the most. Frankly, the only semi-valid arguments for this whole thing is that some countries/places do not offer easy ways for people to get credit cards or equivalent. And even then, it's as much ANet's fault for not have more "globally widely used" payment options as it is for some countries and the unreasonable legal hoops they have for obtaining "globally widely used" payment options.
Finally, on a lighter note, here's a compilation snagged from a forum on the reward equipment from the bonus missions (the BMP should be available on both accounts, I think). They're all max level, blank inscriptions, auto-customized to user. I like the skins for the Tengu weapon line. The Tengu staff reminds me of Tripitaka's 三藏 (was that what it's called?). The Undead spear reminds me of a 方天画戟. And the Tengu scythe & hammer looks vaguely CLAMP-ish. ^^
