First of all, lemme note that I added something I forgot to the entry about today's lunch (it's under friends-lock, so the rest of ya can just pretend you didn't see this :p). Advice would be appreciated there.

Anyways, I heard something rather funny/interesting on Wed. night from my dad. He was talking to my uncle about the stuff he heard while he was in China.

Some kid (he was like pre-high school or so) bought 2 pieces of imported chocolates from somewhere and then turned it around and sold it to 2 classmates for like quadruple the price, each. Then he used that money to buy two sets of trading cards and sold them to two other classmates for two or three times the price. (I think this kinda proves that, contrary to American myth, there are just as many idiots per smart person in China as anywhere else.) When the school authorities found out, naturally there was outrage all around.

Of course, when they pulled in the parents of the merc kid, they found out just where exactly the kid learned it from. The dad is like a entrepeneur/CEO of a successful company and his mom does business overseas all the time. Guess the kid just picked things up by eavesdropping on his parents. Now there's an upcoming materialistic business genius for ya, [insanejournal.com profile] ossian. ^_-

Oh, and another funny thing is that one of the kids who bought the chocolate was a girl who got the money from another guy by threatening him. And it wasn't like threatening him with "you'll be sleeping on the couch if you don't gimme cash", but more like "I'll beat you to a pulp if you don't fork it over."

Ah, it's changes like this in Chinese society that gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. *grin*
