Meanwhile, in senior high (H-1):
Freshmen aren't allowed to compete in ranking matches until fall, so no one's on the Regulars. However, due to the same seniors as 3 years ago picking on Tezuka, Inui and Fuji (with maybe help or at least non-interference from the GP) wreaks havoc on their senpai-tachi. Atobe also shows up with all of Hyotei high's freshman tennis members and all of Hyotei Jr. High's tennis members.
So the third year Regulars are maimed after the June ranking matches and right before Kanto. So Hiko just assigns the best freshman players to fill the five empty spots: Tezuka, Fuji, Inui, & the GP. They play through Kanto.

Echizen wasn't on the Regulars before this point because he didn't get back from America/Europe to make the Ranking Matches in time (something about his plane being rerouted to Beijing and Berlin and Denver and Chicago before landing in Kyoto, and then having to take the bus to Tokyo and missing his stop until he got to Sendai) and Arai got the last spot. But when he heard about how Kuki grabbed Tezuka's arm 3 years ago, he kept on trying to kill Arai to get back the spot. Arai finally went with self preservation and faked a cast and a bogus story about helping a pregnant lady. Hiko then put Echizen on Singles 3.
