Psidai: Another training camp idea
Mar. 18th, 2005 02:53 amThis doesn't have anthing to do with the training camp idea we've already come up with earlier on. It takes place in the last year of high school and mainly centers in on Tezuka and Atobe being the true buchou-tachi that they are. Cashew and I came up with a lot of detailed scenes/dialogue of how much of it would go, but my memory isn't really up to recalling it all at this hour of the day. So I'm just going to put up the general outline and hope that later on we'll be able to work everything out again from the outline.
Scene 1:
The coach from Seigaku High and the coach from Hyotei High were old high school buddies and get together for a reunion drink (and to get their minds off the teams they have to look after), Soun & Genma style. They get drunk and come up with a brilliant plan for their top-notch tennis teams to train together and foster teamwork and adaptation.
Scene 2:
Split screen with Tezuka and Atobe getting midnight calls from their drunk sensei-tachi. Their reactions range from “…” to “you gotta be kidding me”. But the matter is already settled and there’s nothing they can do about it.
Scene 3:
Split screen with Tezuka and Atobe breaking the news to their teams. Reactions consist most of “WHAT?!” to “this should be interesting” to “Kill!”
Segment 4:
They arrive at the training spot, which is a pretty large manor surrounded by miles and miles of wilderness. The Seigaku bus arrives with the ichinen volunteers. The Hyotei bus arrives with second year (male) cheerleaders/volunteers. The Atobe family butlers and etc. have already been through the place to make it livable.
Right after they get out of the bus, the sensei-tachi hand over some papers to the buchou-tachi, including room assignments, training menus, paperwork, etc. They name Tezuka and Atobe in charge of everything and hop back on the bus and leave. Everyone is left staring after their dust.
Room assignment sheet for the Regulars is passed around and is listed as follows:
Atobe & Tezuka (in the master suite, the only room with soundproofed walls)
Fuji & Oshitari
Momoshiro & Mukahi
Echizen & Hiyoshi
Across the hall are:
Oishi & Shishido
Kaidoh & Ohtori
Kabaji & Kikumaru
Jiroh & Inui
Everyone is still gawking/complaining about the assignments.
Tezuka: “What’s everyone still standing around for? Go unpack.” All of Seigaku goes rushing off. The Hyotei kids wonder at how well they’re trained.
Atobe: “And what about you?” The Hyotei kids rush off.
Segment 5:
Kaidoh & Ohtori walk into their room.
Ohtori: Oh, how… quaint and simple and… cute this place is! ^_^
Kaidoh looks up from where he’s pinching up the frills on the end of the curtains and examining them and gives him an odd look. “You call this… simple?”
Then Shishido comes in and drags Ohtori off. Scarcely has Kaidoh started unpacking that Inui comes in and closes the door behind him, glasses shimmering.
Inui: Ah, I’ve calculated that there would be a 90% chance that Shishido would come get Ohtori away within the first five minutes of arrival. It would seem we’re alone for now.
Kaidoh blushes but then the door bursts open and Eiji sticks his head in, calling “Kaoru-ch—“ he sees Inui and backs off and leaves. Inui closes the door again and advances a step on Kaidoh. The door opens again and Momo bursts in.
Momo: “Oi, Mamushi, did you see—oh, it’s the same here.”
Inui promptly scares Momo away. But he just begins to stalk Kaidoh again when Echizen pokes his head in looking for Momo. When he’s scared away, Inui closes the door and waits for a minute. When nothing happens, he advances on Kaidoh again. But then Tezuka opens the door and tells them there’s a meeting in 5 minutes in the main dining room. Inui is somewhat crushed and Kaidoh is halfway relieved.
Segment 6:
Since apparently the trip to the location took so long and it’s pretty late in the day (but actually because the buchou-tachi haven’t deciphered the training menus yet), the rest of the first day is basically free time (no matches).
Antics:
· Oshitari & Fuji try to eavesdrop on the master suite with no luck.
· Momo and Mukahi egg each other on in planning pranks and end up deciding on Echizen & Hiyoshi as their targets because they couldn’t target any of the others for various reasons. The targets of the attack overhears this and pounds against the wall.
· Eiji pops over to Kaidoh and Ohtori to give them tips on being a sneaky uke. The conversations are clearly audible by Shishido next door who’s having a heart attack. Oishi’s trying to calm him down and finally resort to giving him earplugs.
Evening in the master suite:
Tezuka looks up from a sheet of completely illegible writing and asks Atobe if he can decipher the training menu the sensei-tachi left them. Atobe hands over a sheet of paper with complete scribbles on it and asks if he means “that chicken scratch?” Obviously they’re going have to do the training menu themselves.
Atobe: Alone with two teams worth of nutcases with enough tempers to set off a powder keg in normal situations, let alone in this isolated place miles away from all civilization, with only us to come up with a menu to keep them one step from destruction and chaos… do you know what this means, Tezuka? (He slams his hands down on the table.) This training trip will really be us against our teams!
Tezuka: That’s obvious.
Atobe: Good, you’re on the same page with me. I just wanted to make sure.
Tezuka: Start with the training menu for tomorrow?
Atobe: Stamina training. Lots of it. Keep them too tired to start anything problematic.
Tezuka: Agreed. Long distance runs, standard exercises, swings…
Atobe: Mountain climbing. No, scaling. Cliff scaling.
Tezuka: We need them alive for the Nationals.
Atobe: Fine. Hiking then. And also weight training. I’ve brought in the equipment. Are there any rivers around here?
Tezuka: Ohtori-kun can’t swim.
Atobe: Oh, right.
They continue off in that vein for the rest of the night. Fuji is suspicious that the light is always on next door.
Segment 7:
At 6 a.m. in the morning everyone is awakened by the shrill sound of what sounds like the fire alarm. They come out to find that the alarm only sounds inside their rooms, not in the corridor. Atobe is in the corridor, fully dressed, announcing that the alarm will be their daily wake-up call. He also tells them to get dressed and the full schedule for the day is on the wall right outside the dining room. Don’t be late.
As everyone makes their way to the dining room, Inui calculates that list shouldn’t be too long given Atobe’s work ethic (and other reasons? I forget). They get there to find a huge roll of paper stretching from ceiling to floor, with minutely detailed items scheduled down to 5-minute intervals. And that’s just for one day. Everyone looks at Inui, who laments that it doesn’t compute. Fuji says it sounds like Tezuka. Oshitari says it’s definitely Atobe’s work. Most others don’t believe him. Shishido comments that they’ve never seen Atobe’s anal side. Inui concludes that they must have worked together, which shocks everyone.
First exercise of the day is long distance running. People wonder where Atobe is. Tezuka just commands them to run and leads the pace. After running to the halfway mark, Tezuka suddenly stops and goes off to the side of the road. Everyone pauses and wonder why Tezuka stopped and if they’re done. Atobe pops out of nowhere (startling everyone) and tells them to keep running, and takes the lead for the rest of the run. Tezuka just watches everyone run off, then walks over through the brush to the cabbie that brought Atobe to be delivered to the destination in order to lead the first part of the run back.
Segment 8:
More misc. training throughout the week. Not very necessary to the main plot but might need to be filled in for the flow of the story.
Training is also supplemented by study sessions because everyone still need to keep up with their coursework for the missing time. The sessions are held in the dining room instead of in their rooms so that Tezuka and Atobe can proctor them. Most are tutored by their assigned roomies, but for some that doesn’t work. The study groups are as follows:
Fuji & Oshitari & Mukahi
Kaidoh & Ohtori
Hiyoshi & Momo with Echizen just dragged in
Shishido & Oishi & Eiji
Inui just leaves copies of his homework and notes for Jiroh
Segment 9:
On the night before the last day, everyone is tired on their feet as they finish whatever it is they’re doing. For some reason they’re all together (and awake) except the buchou-tachi. Someone comments that buchou’s have it easy. Inui or Fuji suggests they spy and see what Atobe and Tezuka are doing. So they all go peek in the windows, which Atobe for once forgot to close the curtains over (he’s been losing sleep). Inui pulls out a gadget that allows them to hear through the soundproof window.
They see a huge room with a huge desk, both full of tall stacks of paper everywhere, all of it neatly indexed and tabbed and sorted. Tezuka and Atobe are sitting at opposite sides of the table, writing.

So all the eavesdroppers are partly in total awe at the omniscience and care of their buchou-tachi, partly scared about all the things they didn’t know their buchou-tachi were perfectly aware of, partly mortified at hearing themselves being discussed in various contexts, and totally being guilt tripped by just how much more work their buchou-tachi are putting forth than them. By the end it’s 14 people sitting under the window with their backs to the wall and twiddling their fingers together in shame and guilt.
At exactly 3 a.m. Atobe informs Tezuka they’ve only got 3 more hours, and Tezuka can take the first shift. So Tezuka goes to the bed, draws the curtains, and turns off the lights to that side of the room. He sleeps for an hour while Atobe keeps working on the papers, muttering to himself as he did so. Then Atobe wakes him up and sleeps for an hour while Tezuka works, also mouthing the words to himself as he does so. At the end of the second hour, Atobe goes to take a shower while Tezuka goes to pin the day’s schedule up. Everyone is so moved.
So when exercises start that day, Tezuka and Atobe are surprised to be greeted with everyone on their teams with tears streaming down their faces and stars shining in their eyes. Somehow, without knowing it, they’ve managed to improve their teams’ eventual performances to 80%.
Segment 10:
After getting back, the first thing Tezuka announces is that to take the rest of the day off. He walks home and is followed at a distance by everyone. They climb a tree outside his bedroom window and watch as Tezuka walks into his room, drops his bag, takes off his glasses, rolls onto his bed, and zonks off. He was that tired.
For Hyotei, after they got back Atobe is still standing around giving orders to his servants for this and that. Ohtori tries to get him to rest but Atobe says he’s fine and shoves everyone out the door. They peek in through some convenient peep hole. After a couple of hours, Atobe finally finishes and tells the servants to draw up a bath. Right before he goes into the bathroom, he tells the butler to come get him in 30 minutes. Everyone is confused. At 30 minutes the butler goes in and carries out an unconscious Atobe wrapped in a loose robe/towel and tucks him into bed. Everyone is moved again.
