PoT AU ficlet
Feb. 17th, 2005 09:56 pmRemember when
cashew and I made that AU world wherein the PoT kids had superpowers? Well, in the spirit of the Psychic Academy manga series (except without the fashion disasters), we extended that world to university - a university for psychics which would ensure that the boys we know and love will forever and always stay together in the most crack-filled and non-Real-Life-affected ways. So we came up with Psi Dai, the university for parapsychics.
Of course, given all that setup, naturally the plot bunnies would be biting like crazy. That's where the idea of this little ficlet came from.
Background: It's the near the end of the first year since the Tenipuri kids have started going to Psidai. This means that it's almost time for next years kids (who we the audience better know as the current middle school second years) to come in. This, naturally, means new room assignments for the newbies, as well as for some enterprising current students to change rooms (and roommates). Naturally, our characters being who they are, things never come out as expected...
Night Before
It was the night before Christmas... or rather, it was still a few nights away from Christmas break and dearly hoped for vacation time for the beleaguered staff of Psidai. The Director of Undergraduate Housing was just on his way home when he was stopped by his secretary.
"Director-san, since my vacation time starts tomorrow, I have completed the final version of next year's room assignments. They're on your desk."
"A final version? I thought the new room assignments were completed a month ago when we approved the swapping of rooms for Kikumaru and Oshitari."
"Hai. However, recently we have received two letters from the psychic counsellors from Seishun Gakuken and Rikkaidai. They informed us that two of our incoming freshmen need to be placed with a senpai of their former high school for safety purposes. Therefore, a new assignment list needed to be drawn."
Of course, what neither of them knew was that only one of those two letters was actually authentic. The Seigaku letter had been carefully forged by one Inui Sadaharu, mad scientist-genius extraordinaire.
"Very well. I will file the papers tomorrow morning," said the Director. He then continued on his way home, as did the secretary.
Again, neither of them noticed the small blinking camera bug hidden in the corner of the office, which observed exactly what its owner wanted it to. Therefore, at exactly 10:00 p.m., after the last janitorial cleanup of the administrative offices, a mysterious figure slipped into the offices, evading locks and security with casual ease. This was, after all, Yanagi Renji, the other mad scientist-genius extraordinaire.
Yanagi easily found the document he was looking for, the new room assignment to his dorm. Quickly, he scanned down the list:
Yanagi smiled and he muttered softly to himself. "Ah, Sadaharu. I see that my calculations about your reaction to your kouhai coming to Psidai are accurate. Unfortunately, I have no intention of babysitting Akaya-kun for the rest of my university life. I hope you will understand."
With that, he pulled out a new sheet of room assignments, neatly typed up on the exact same letterhead as the offical document. Not only had Yanagi moved himself back to the room he currently shared with Inui, he had also made a few more changes. Kirihara did need someone to look after him, after all.
Also, he and Inui were only a floor up and a few doors down from the walking earthquake that was Shishido Ryou, whose frequent waves of destruction were quite the annoyance to their delicate experiments. The fact that Sanada was just a suite away and tended to bounce off the general insanity that seemed to be gathered in that region didn't help either. Yanagi thought that Sanada would probably be happier anyways if he moved him closer to Yukimura, and floor one (not to mention himself) would definitely benefit from someone who could tone down the chaos there... like Tezuka-kun, for instance. Yanagi didn't think he'd mind being put together with a kouhai of his own high school either.
And so, this was the state of things when Yanagi slipped away from the undergraduate housing office:
However, it was scarcely half an hour after Yanagi returned to his room that another presence entered the office, past the already-disabled locks and alarms. Mizuki, as always, was stalking at the heels of his superiors in the data gathering business, and this was one of those rare instances where he actually succeeded in doing so.
Naturally, upon seeing the new housing assignments for the next year, Mizuki got his own ideas. With nowhere the perfectionist finesse of Yanagi (or Inui), he pulled out a pen and immediately made some changes to the list. He was more than tired of rooming with Fuji Syuusuke, who was responsible for more than one instance of defenestration when he was attempting to spy on the uber-data-gatherers in the room above his -- not that he could ever prove it, of course.
This time, Mizuki was getting far away from Fuji as possible. Well, Fuji Syuusuke, anyways. Why, there was poor Yuuta-kun all alone on the fourth floor with the other new incoming freshmen. He was sure they could use a senpai to help them out.
When Mizuki (while quietly giggling like a madman) finished making his changes and leaving the office, Yanagi's formerly pristine paperwork looked like so:
Unfortunately for him, Mizuki's triumphant laughter came too soon. For no sooner had he cleared the corner of the corridor than the last visitor to the housing office snuck in. It was none other than the aforementioned Fuji Syuusuke.
Looking at the list, the first thing he did was to get his little brother out of Mizuki's clutches. He'd wanted to room with Tezuka, but his overwhelming protectiveness of his brother came out ahead in the struggle. To punish Mizuki, now that he couldn't be there to torment the creep himself, he switched him out with Tachibana. He figured that Kippei would appreciate being rescued out of the first floor's zone of chaos as much as he himself would, and he was nice enough to even put him in the same suite -- not that he'd wanted to have Momo's chaotic aura nearby anyways.
Finally, almost as an after-thought, Fuji switched Atobe into the suite too, and put Sanada down together with Tezuka. After all, this was an excellent chance to get back at the spoiled, aristocratic prima-donna who had been tormenting him all year with his intolerable advances on Tezuka. This time, let Atobe be the one to get jealous of a possible rival near Tezuka, while he, Fuji, would be there waiting for the moment that Atobe becomes distracted enough to forget his presence. Oh yes. He will pay.
Thus, the next morning, the Director of Undergraduate Housing at Psidai found a much-marked room assignments list to the dorms:
Shaking his head at the sloppiness of his secretary, he went ahead and filed it.
And thus, in the end, only Yanagi Renji and Fuji Syuusuke really got what they wanted. Though Inui adapted to his situation rather well, and Fuji belatedly realized that switching someone who gave you sore eyes into the same suite as yourself in a fit of vengeance maybe wasn't the smartest thing to, and so on...
Well, those and others are stories of their own, still waiting to be told.
AN:Where is Kabaji, you ask? ...I don't know. I had an odd number of people to work with. So... just assume he's rooming with some other random character not in the PoT cast. Really, it's not like his presence will make for any good hijinks.
