I dunno... I get the impression that most people of this kind of reaction just don't think immortality can be "bad", or something. Like, they look at what the Xianzhou people are like, ignore the whole complicated history and mara-struck shitck, don't bother to pay attention to what the Denizens of Abundance are actually like, and then declare that Yaoshi's blessing is perfectly fine...

I'm not sure where this comes from, cuz when I think of Immortality themes in western fiction, I think of the Greek myth where Eos wished for immortality for her boyfriend and he turned into a grasshopper. Or Selene and Endymion...I guess that one was ok? Then there's Tolkien's elves. And there's Highlander... hm. I guess a lot of western fiction doesn't really cast immortality as an automatic bad thing.

Then again though, I don't think CN literature does either? I mean, JtW and the whole Xianxia/cultivation genre is about achieving immortality.

Hm. Ok, I guess these people just fail reading comprehension then.
