Well, the bright side for the WMD thing is that they basically mushed it into the scepter-brainwashing-argument and basically never mentioned it again. So it was kinda a footnote to the overall film. Also, they mentioned that "Phase 2" was still in progress and then gave away the tesseract at the end of the film so the (that) point is moot anyway. Also, also, they managed to give better arguments for both sides of the issue in the 5 minutes worth of brainwashed arguments than in the entire run of comics that have ever been devoted to the same issue...which is kinda...good? sad? *shrug*
Thanos... Iono, some cosmic level big name villain in the comics. Probably gonna just be some alien big bad boss guy in the films though. You can google him up. The film uses the red skinned version of him.
