I love the ending. Actually, I do think the song (and the series) is a mockery of the Wuxia genre. It amuses me mostly because of how about 99% of wuxia tropes are covered. XD
Also, I would argue it's only awful if you don't appreciate the trolling aspect of the show. Personally, I was just pure amused at the unabashed mockery of everything "wuxia".
As for the Water Margins peeps, even Lin Chong wasn't really a "侠", because of the sheer pathetic life that he lead thanks to trying to stick to his moral code. He didn't inspire any sense of awe from the audience, just pure hatred for the government that screwed over a good general. (Dammit, he's a 九州提督!!! And he died as a foot soldier! *takes a deep breath*)
I guess my point is that 侠客 inspires awe in the reader, such that even if they die, they die in a cool way that makes you go, "Wow!" If any of the classic character could be considered under such a name, I would say 赵云 and 关羽 falls under this category. Even unto death, they were cool. Pretty much all the other characters have exhibited some moment of "Aw damn, that sucks" that inspires pity rather than exude coolness.
But, that's because most characters are human and not Gary Stu of coolness.
