Cashew and I had too much free time on our hands tonight, so this is what we came up with. Now, mind, since Tenipuri comes from anime and manga, the powers that we came up with are strictly of the anime and manga "flavor". So if you're more familiar with American comics type superpowers, just forget all about those terms and definitions now.

Addendum: AU Main Index

And now, on with the crack...

Seigaku

Tezuka Kunimitsu:
He has two parts to his powers. One is an aura which negates any active (or passive) powers that touches or interacts with it, sort of like a null-zone, so he's never affected by other people's powers. This power is always on and can't be consciously turned off. The other part of his powers is that he can reach out to a nearby person and actively nullify their powers. This is very useful in keeping control of the group of loonies that is the Seigaku tennis team, as we will see.

Fuji Syusuke:
He basically has what Eastern mythology/folklore would call the "third eye". Or perhaps the "inner eye", which allows him to see things about people that others don't, such as their aura and their moods and lots of other stuff. It's not telepathy though; he doesn't see thoughts. The bad thing about it is that it's also something that he can't turn off, and the input from his inner eye is very distracting when overlaid from his normal eyesight. This is why he keeps his normal eyes closed most of the time, because otherwise all the extra input would be too taxing for him. It's also why he likes being around Tezuka, who's own aura negates his sight and Tezuka looks to him like a very welcome zone of comforting blankness silhouetted against a world of overly bright chaos.

Kawamura Takashi:
His powers are obviously fire-based. He's something of a pyrokinetic, whose powers bloomed exceptionally early, when he was still too young to learn control (like when he was still a todder). So something extra had to be done to help him control his powers. His parents went with the solution of getting a hypnotist to seal his powers, even unconsciously. This ended up creating the effect that Kawamura is completely normal usually, but goes completely bonkers with all the repressed powers and fiery personality whenever he's holding a tennis racket. However, since he started growing up and being able to be expected to control himself, he's been slowly getting weaned off the hypnotic control, hence why he's in the tennis club. According to his therapist, the prognosis is good that he'll be able to completely remove the hypnotic suggestion by the end of Jr. High, which is why he's not expecting to stay on the team after the current year.

Oishi Shuichiroh:
Oishi's power is a rather instinctive form of precognition. He doesn't actually see the future, except maybe in flashes deep in his dreams that he rarely remembers. Mostly, it's like a strong feeling that a certain thing might happen, or a strong inclination to do something. For instance, he might leave the house on a sunny day, pause, and suddenly go back to get an umbrella; it would then rain later in the day. To him, it wouldn't even be a conscious recognition that his powers are in play. He'd just say he's bringing an umbrella because one should always be ready for anything. To Oishi, he's perfectly normal, and that's also how most people see him too. Of course, part of the reason for his relatively low level of power is that he has a very large amount of potential power that's never activated (and likely never will be). This potential mostly appears as a very deep extension of his normal-person-like aura, but focused deeply internally instead of outside. This depth of aura also tends to have a ocean-like effect against outside active powers interacting with it - that is, the surface might be a little ruffled, but the depth cushions him from being excessively affected by outside powers. This makes Oishi a highly stable person, with a perfectly normal and highly stable personality, which makes him the perfect partner for someone like Eiji.

Kikumaru Eiji:
Eiji is an empath, though he's more of an reactive one than active one most of the time. That is, he tends to be affected by the emotions of people around him more than he tends to affect the emotions of other people. The former is unconscious and largely instinctive, which causes to him to have some really wild mood swings. The latter tends to be done consciously, or when he's in a really intense emotion himself and it leaks out. This is largely the reason he was originally assigned to be partners with Oishi, whose complete unflappable calm and natural caring does wonders at giving Eiji a stable emotion to latch onto, and thus calm him down. Of course, by now, the problem is rather more of when Eiji and Oishi are "together", when they tend to cause severe cases of insulin-shock and cavities to people around them.

Inui Sadaharu:
Inui has a sort of post-cognitive power, though it's far more developed than Oishi's precognitive power. Inui can get visions of what happened at a certain place or by touching a certain thing or person. He also has a fairly good sense of when exactly the events he's seeing happened. Naturally, he uses most of this to complement his hobby of stalking other people and gathering data on them. However, it doesn't work on Tezuka either, despite the fact that it's acting on something/somewhere that Tezuka is no longer present. Also, Inui's father may be a government official, or at least someone working in whatever department that deals with psychic humans. So a lot of the time, new edicts or whatever regarding psychics that come down from the government is given to Inui to tell his teammates. Most of the time is something really minor. But sometimes, Inui tends to add his own "touches" to the annoucements. Of course, no one thinks to check the public records of the real version of the order until after they've suffered a while under said "touches", but that's just Seigaku for you.

Kaidoh Kaoru:
Beastmaster. Or rather, he's highly in tune with animals, rather than being able to control or command them. Ironically, the more cuddly and fluffy and cute the animal is, the more he's in tune with it. This is why he's a vertiable pushover when it comes to kitties and puppies. As well, he's also got a healthy bit of animal instinct. Unfortuately, that instinct is what draws him toward Inui half the time... and tells him to run away the other half. He's so confused. :p

Momoshiro Takeshi:
His power is sort of like a walking cause of chaos. Basically, his aura interacts strangely with the auras of other psychics, causing their powers to have effects that are unexpected, or aren't intended. Momo can't turn this off, though the intensity and range of his aura is related to how emotional (eg. angry, depressed, hyper, etc.) he gets. The scientists/doctors say that he "should" be able to control it to actually do something (useful), but no one has figured out what it can or is supposed to do yet, much less how Momo can learn to control it. This is why he usually plays on the opposite side of the court from Kawamura, and why Oishi is almost always nearby when Momo is in range of Eiji (though it's Oishi job to stick by Eiji regardless), and why the only time Ryuuzaki-sensei allowed him to play doubles with Ryoma, it was against purely non-powered people.

Echizen Ryoma:
Ryoma is something of a channel. He's a conduit who can channel/copy other people's powers. How well or easy he can do it is related to how close the other person is standing and how well/long Ryoma knows him. Rarely, he does this unconsciously. In close range, he can also amplify another's powers to a small degree. However, he almost never uses the active sides of his powers though, largely because he is so apathetic to anything outside of tennis or his pet cat.

Fudomine

Tachibana Kippei:
His powers is sort of like a toned-down version of Fuji's. He can see the auras of people, how they pulse and change and have many shades/streaks glittering across it, and how they interact with other people. He's not experienced or knowledge enough to be able to read/interpret everything he sees in the auras he sees, but he can interpret the major shades and tones to auras such as dominant emotions, motivations, and such. This is partly what makes him a good leader (the other part being his own very natural charisma and social skills). It's also a power that's not always on. He can to some degree ignore it, or push it to the background and concentrate on his normal vision. This control is something that Fuji wishes he could have. That plus their slightly similar powers, is what created the somewhat close friendship between Fuji and Tachibana that appears in the series.

Tachibana Ann:
Tachibana's little sister has a similar type of power as him. She can see the "threads" that connect people together. This ability bloomed when she was very young (much like Kawamura), and in the beginning, she could see all the different colors of the threads that denoted the different kinds of relationships and fates that tied people together. However, the whole ordeal was far too much for her still developing mind to take. So to protect itself, her mind automatically sealed a large portion of her powers, so that she was basically colorblind in her powers (though not in her normal vision). However, as she's growing up, and under the urging of her therapists and her family, she slowly starting to work on growing back into her power, and she's gotten to the point where the threads are in shades of grey instead of entirely just black and there. However, in her efforts to become one with her full abilities again, Ann tends to help herself along by pushing people who have any kind of thread together and seeing what happens. A lot of the time this ends explosively. Ann just finds it all amusing. Well, at least she doesn't fear her powers...

Kamio Akira:
He basically has a very subtle and passive power, which is a highly overactive metabolism, and a highly overactive body to go with it. Drugs, medicine, and other things don't tend to stick along long enough in his system to leave as much of an effect as they would others. He's also heals very quick, and his pain processing tends to go by that he doesn't really notice pain from scrapes and cuts until it's over and healing/healed already. The downside to his powers is that sometimes his mind can't keep up with his body, especially when he goes into some instinctive autopilot mode that often lands him tripping over his feet or walking right into a wall. Ironically, he's very clumsy outside of tennis. For him, actually playing tennis would be a form of meditation and a form of discipline, to get his mind trained to be able to keep up with his body. But alas, while he's had some success at that in the courts, it hasn't seemed to have crossed over outside of it.

Ibu Shinji:
His power is telepathy, except he basically only receives surface thoughts from others, and then, he's receiving *everything* from *everyone* around him, at the same time. If it's from normal people, it tends to be a mish-mash of jumbled words that make no sense, though it also tends to be soft enough for him to ignore. If it's from psychic people, who tend to be at least more disciplined in their minds, then it's just several monologues going one at once. In that case, sometimes Shinji will fall back on his old habit of mumbling replies to everything he's hearing. Actually, his original habit was to simply reply to everything he's hearing, making absolutely no sense half the time because he's mixing up his replies to several dialogues into one sentence. However, after much confusion from people around him who weren't actually speakig to him, Shinji got into the habit of mumbling his replies instead. He still hasn't fully kicked that habit yet.

* The rest of the Fudomine team we decided were all normal non-powered kids. They're good tennis players, sure, but they're not important characters. :p

St. Rudolph

Mizuki Hajime:
His powers are somewhat like Inui's in that he sees the past. Instead of having visions of what happened in the past (as Inui does), Mizuki basically sees afterimages of events that have already occured playing out before him when he's in an area or touching an object that's resonating with that particular event/memory. Also, he has no sense of how long ago the even he's seeing happened, so it could be an hour ago, or even years ago. However, Mizuki being the kind of person he is, will simply draw a conclusion about when it happened - usually a wrong one. So just like he's much more sloppy at data-gathering than Inui, Mizuki is also much more sloppy at analysis of his data/Sight than Inui. But that's just to be expected.

Fuji Yuuta:
His powers are also seeing-based, just like his siblings and Tachibana. However, he's very much a late-bloomer, so his powers are just barely showing themselves. So all he gets are the barest flashes of images and sensations whenever he touches or gets close to someone or is in some resonating place. The flashes always goes by too fast or sudden for Yuuta to even recognize or remember what he's seeing. This is very frustrating for Yuuta, who knows that he's seeing visions (the scientists tell him so), but can't actually register them, and yet they won't leave him along if they're going to just tease him at inconvenient moments like that. His frustration, plus his age (which is not as good for adapting to new thing as most younger bloomers) makes it even harder to get used to his powers. This is yet another reason he envies his brother, though Fuji in the reverse just can't understand why Yuuta would want such an annoying eyestrain as it is to See.

* The rest of St. Rudolph are normal tennis players too.

Yamabuki

Sengoku Kiyosumi:
He's lucky. 'Nuff said.

Akutsu Jin:
According to the scientists reports, Akutsu's powers is a sort of projective-only empathy (kinda like Eiji's powers in reverse). Basically, his aura reflects his mood and those people standing in the zone covered by his aura (which is not that large) feels the effects of that aura. However, given Akutsu's fairly angsty childhood, as well as his own unlikeable personality, his aura has pretty much been stuck on the negative end of the spectrum. So anyone going near him would get a strong sense of unease and doom radiating off of him. Akutsu doesn't really know this, having not really paid attention when it was attempted to be explained to him, nor does he really care, or is likely to change if he knew.

Dan Taichi:
He's young enough that his powers are only starting to emerge. Right now, he basically is able to instinctively sense the untapped potential in other people, be it psychic, intellectual, physical, artistic, etc. potential. He can't tell the difference, nor does he consciously know he's sensing something. All he does is feel something of a pull or attraction (not *that* kind of attraction) toward certain people. The first person his newly emerged powers pulled him toward was Akutsu, and having followed the other boy around like a puppy for quite a while, Dan has since formed something of an emotional attachment to him, despite Akutsu's aura-o-doom. This also explains Dan's interest in Ryoma when they first met.

* The rest of Yamabuki are normal too.

Hyoutei

Atobe Keigo:
Atobe's powers are to create illusions, usually through oration. The illusions don't actually appear in physical space. Rather, they exist in the perceptions of the listner/targets, usually as an entire completed scenery. Naturally, when he sings or actually makes a speech, it's certainly something that people all swarm over to see, and their adoration of his abilities only serve to feed Atobe's ego. Well, except Tezuka, who's probably the only one who sees Atobe for himself (hence Atobe's interest in Tezuka).

Kabaji Munehiro:
Kabaji is a telepath of a similar sort that Shinji is, except his powers developed early in life as well, and is much more uncontrollable. Instead of getting words, coherent or not, Kabaji gets a steady drone of white noise from the minds of all normal human minds in the vicinity (and his "hearing" range is much larger than Shinji's). This noise would often drown out his physical hearing early on, as well as making concentrated thinking a strain. This served to stunt a lot of poor Kabaji's mental development, especially his speaking abilities and vocabulary. Fortunately, on meeting Atobe when they were kids (perhaps Kabaji's father works for Atobe's father), it was discovered that Atobe's powers can temporarily drown out the white noise in Kabaji's mind, allowing him to think and perceive thoughts more clearly, especially Atobe's (who's clearly a very intelligent and learned boy, no matter his ego's size). This eventually resulted in their "relationship" today, where Kabaji serves Atobe's every whim, and Atobe feels strongly responsible and obligated to looking after Kabaji.

Akutagawa Jiroh:
He can basically move around in the "dream world". People aren't really sure what his dreamscape really is - whether he's having visions or if he's doing out-of-body visits to other people's dreams - mostly because Jiroh doesn't really talk about it. He'd rather spend all of his free time sleeping in said dreams.

Oshitari Yuushi:
He's sort of the opposite to Shishido. Instead of a wave of violent kinetics, he emits waves of calmness. So I guess he's sort of like Eiji's empathy channeling Oishi's natural calmness? Normally, Oshitari just has a light zone of calmness about him (basically of the area covered by his naturl aura), which is useful in keeping his glasses from cracking when Shishido gets mad. He can strengthen his aura, usually to keep Mukahi under control. In the extreme, those in his area of effect will feel extremely lethargic, though they won't be like falling asleep on their feet or anything. He can also send out pulses/waves of calmness, though that has about the same range as the kinetic effects of Shishido's power.

Mukahi Gakuto:
He has the (theoretical) potential for weather control, but right now he can only effect the nearby vicinity (like about over a few blocks overhead). His influence is also highly dependent on his mood, so when he's feeling cheerful there will be clear skies, and if he's feeling depressed there will be a grey cloudy day. He can't force things like calling a storm out of a clear sky, but he can push things along like triggering a full-on thunderstom out of a slightly rainy day. Of course, there are always the fluke occurences, which is why Oshitari is assigned to work with him... especially during monsoon season.

Shishido Ryou:
He has a sort of explody type power, a sort of kinesis which is very much tied to him emotions. Basically, when he gets very very angry, he radiates a "wave" of "disturbance" which tends to crack or break fragile things in the vicinity, such as glass. Other times, the earth might start rumbling or tremoring (of course, this being Japan where earthquakes are very usual occurances, most people don't even notice). As well, the more kinetic effects of these disturbances are fairly short-range. However, psychics further off will be able to feel the psychic aftereffects of the wave, which have much longer ranges before dissipating.

Ohtori Choutarou:
He can heal... mostly minor stuff. And he basically heals "from his spirit". He can also strengthen other's spirits, though it's not anything that a good peptalk couldn't also do. And no, his powers do not require a vow of chastity or something to maintain. :p

Hiyoshi Wakashi:
Instead of reflecting light like normal people (and objects) do, Hiyoshi *refracts* light. This causes him to appear tinted with different colors on his skin or hair or etc. The effect is unpredictable and uncontrollable, which can cause some really "bad color days". As a result, Hiyoshi tends to wear as much cover as possible, and dreads those moments when his coloring shows on his face or hair. He follows Atobe despite not liking the other boy because under Atobe's illusions, he would appear normal, as the illusion overwrites the refractions.

Rokkaku

Saeki Koujiro:
He emits a sort of anti-gravity field that acts on specific objects or people, and causes them to start floating slowly off into space. This effect isn't that strong, and usually doesn't lift anything heavier than a person much higher than a story or two. It's also very uncontrollable, and effects random objects or people when Saeki is not paying attention (such as when asleep). It's slightly more controllable to reverse once he notices the predicament, but he still hasn't yet perfected his landings.

Aoi Kentaro:
He gives off a sort of aura affecting people around him, which causes their adrenaline levels to rise, creating a sort of artificial high. This effect is pretty much unnoticable during sporting events, when other people are already high on adrenaline, of course.

* The rest of Rokkaku are normal.

Rikkai

Yukimura Seiichi:
Kind of like how Kaidoh is in tune with animals, Yukimura is in tune with plants, and with nature in general. He's the kind of guy who will go "ah, spring is in the air" even if he's locked inside a completely sealed room. Or the kind of guy who'll go "hm, a storm is coming" on a clear bright morning, and be right. His connection with nature also makes him a very zen-like persona and a very soothing presence as well.

Sanada Genichirou:
His aura basically acts like a mirror. It reflects active powers directed toward it, though not always back at the original sender of said powers. This random bouncing sometimes causes chaos to erupt around him, causing Sanada to stand exasperately and confusedly in the eye of a storm, especially since he doesn't feel anything himself. In fact, most of the time, he's not inclined to even remember that his powers exist. It's not like he can turn it off even if he wanted to anyway.

Kirihara Akaya:
He has an openess of his psyche that can be called receptive telepathy, but really is just shorthand for being able to get possessed easily. In fact, when he was younger, Kirihara would become "possessed" by the psychic emanations of any psychic who happened to walk by his (fairly large) range. Most of the time, the offending psychic isn't even aware something happened. However, Kirihara would suddenly find his consciousness shoved back and something else taking him over. Unfortunately, having grown up on ghosts and other horror stories, Kirihara thought the "attacks" came from one person or evil spirit trying to possess him, and as a result developed something of a split personality because of his phobia. The "demonic" personality tends to pop out, nowadays, whenever an overabundance of psychic presences or emotional instability pushes him over the brink, and he starts to channel any and all psyches around him, usually focusing on the most negative aspects of them. However, ever since his match against Fuji, where his "demonic" persona was utterly defeated by the other boy, Kirihara has been slowly working on overcoming his phobia and getting some desperatedly-needed therapy and healing.

Yanagi Renji:
Renji's powers can be summed up with the words "topological clairvoyance". He basically has a real-time map of the surrounding area in his mind's eye, whose details are clearer the more nearby the area is. If he knows where to focus, he can also zoom in on areas of the map, such as on people. The map can also detect psi-based disruptions, and those are usually clues to tell him where to look for where interesting things are happening. Because of his power, Renji usually does not need to open his eyes for navigation or observation. It also makes him a top-notch data-gatherer, and more so when teamed up with the postcognitive Inui Sadaharu.

Jakkaru Kuwahara:
He's an aura absorber who tends to intercept nearby or incoming auras from other sources/people and absorb it into his own. Usually, he is not affected by the auras he absorbs, though there is an upper limit to how much he can absorb before his aura "sink" is overloaded, and then he would be affected by other auras just like a normal person would. However, usually his job is to simply "clean up" his doubles partner Bunta's excess energy, or to stick by Kirihara to prevent him from being affected/possessed by nearby psi-auras, so his aura is rarely pushed to the limit.

Marui Bunta:
He suffers from an overabundance and overgeneration of aura. This causes his aura to "shed", throwing a lot of excess energy into his surrounding area. As a result, if he stays in one spot long enough, he has a tendency to give people or imbue nearby objects with static shocks.

Yagyuu Hiroshi: (manga version)
He sees in something like computer vision (think Bobby from the Senbatsu in the anime), full of vectors and grids and so forth, hazily splashed with color. This change in his vision came abruptly in his youth, and he hasn't been able to see normally since. Despite having adapted to his new (and pretty useful) vision, Yagyuu still hopes one day that he will be able to see a normal sunset again.

Niou Masaharu: (manga version)
He has the power of persuasion, and can talk people into things they usualy won't even consider doing. It's not a irresistable power, though, especially when used on people who know about Niou's powers and his trickster reputation.

Others/Adults

Ryuuzaki-sensei

Sasaki:
Sasaki is a government-placed representative to Hyotei as well as the coach for the tennis team there. His job is to mainly keep strict tabs on the important and sometimes volatile psi's at Hyotei, while also coaching their tennis. He is not a psi.

Hanamura-sensei:
Capable of reading and identifying auras and what powers they mean, Hanamura-sensei is a government researcher and teacher at Jousei Shounen, where studies are being done to create artifical psi's out of normal high-potential children. The projects are very heavily scrutinized by parents, media, and government, so there is no unethical or dangerous research going on. Hanamura-sensei might look to be a mad scientist type, but so far her works have all been fairly good successes.

Inuoe

Shiba

Yamato-buchou:
Yamato is a normal person who has no psi powers at all, a fact that is very surprising to many, considering his very charismatic and powerful personality, which leaves people like the ever-stoic Tezuka in utter awe. After graduating from high school, Yamato went on to pursue a teaching degree, and has since interned as a teaching assistant at Psidai.
