On online "piracy"
Feb. 4th, 2005 01:02 amSo our topic this week in CS195 is all about intellectual property and e-piracy. All of this has reminded me of the Baen Free Library. In particular, the introductory message/explanation/rant by Eric Flint on the front page of that site. Mr. Flint eloquently lambastes the hell out of those in the writing business who are bemoaning the issue of online piracy of copyrighted works.
I just came across one of his other essays/rants on that site, this one directly addressing the issue of online music piracy. As usual, it's a very entertaining read. It's easy to see why Mr. Flint's in the writing business. (Addendum: Actually, on rereading, it's not really clear if Mr. Flint wrote it, since the name at the top and the link at the bottom goes to Janis Ian. However, the comment about "to read Eric Flint's entire article, go to www.janisian.com" kinda threw me off. Just who wrote what?!)
Also, more of his essays/responses can be found in this index.
Addendum 2: There's also a followup to the music piracy article.
