GW2 Cantha and fishing
Emm... Ignoring the cheesy video, this fishing thing seems rather... boring? I mean, it feels like it's gonna be something similar to ascended cooking, so just another crafting line?
Also, the more I look at the boats, the more I'm meh about the skin. Checked and I didn't buy the deluxe preorder for HoT or PoF even on my main account. This time it doesn't feel like the boat skiff skin is worth it, though still pondering the raptor skin.

Sounds like fishing is just a new harvest node, which sounds like a pretty shitty reskin to sell harvest tools. Is there going to be a bait system? It feels like just another way to take up more inventory space and sell them through the store as far as I can tell.
Honestly, I don't understand the obsession with wanting fishing in MMOs or RPGs. I've very rarely found fishing mini-games to be all that fun. The only one that worked for me was the one in Another Eden, and that's because there's a whole leveling system and fishing economy to go with it. I get people want a break from battling, but very rarely have I seen fishing mechanic integrate meaningfully into the game. (I put up with Pokémon fishing because I have not, not because I want to.)
Also, unless I see boat skins like this:
I don't see the point of having boats (as in, they're forcing different travel methods and making old travel methods obsolete for the sake of new content without actually fundamentally making new things). Because having boat sails fly your guild emblem (like how capes allowed guild emblems in GW1) might make it worth getting a boat. And you can pretend you're Zhuge Liang borrowing arrows or something. XD
I'm a bit skeptical about how great it would be to have boats, because gliding and mounts have all very much fucked up the previous maps (due to not having built those maps with that kind of travel in mind). I get that with boats there's less of a chance, since there wasn't many water ways in prior maps, but you never know how that will shift things. Anyway, the power creep in travel convenience is getting ridiculous. (But also, how are you keeping a boat in your inventory?! Or will the boats not travel with you and you'll need to go fetch it from the last place you left it?)

As for travel convenience creep, that I don't think will be an issue, cuz as you say there's not that many waterways in early maps. Plus we already have the manta mount for speedy water travel. The only difference between that and the boat appears to be that the boat can carry multiple players, and you can fish from the boat (not sure if you can fight from it...)

Ah, yes, manta mount, I forgot about that. Well, we'll see. If the only upside to boats is basically "mount but for multiple people", then...meh. Seems like a really pointless add. On the other hand, if it restructures travel mechanics the way mounts did, then it's just another power creep. Either way, I don't feel great about it.
