Detective Conan drabble (series)
MIGHT be part of a series. Who knows. Depends on if the muses stick around. I promise to try and keep the Magic Kaito cast out of it as much as possible.
That Special Insanity
500 words
It was 3 AM in the morning and the lights were burning in Professor Agasa’s house.
“Were you insane, Hattori?!”
“What? Not like you didn’t do the same thing, Kudo.”
“That’s precisely why it’s a bad idea to go around following people dressed in black.”
“I was prepared! And careful!”
“You were hot-blooded.”
“Well, I didn’t get shrunk! And I didn’t come out empty-handed.”
“No, you just suddenly show up in Tokyo at 3 AM in the morning looking like you came out the losing end of a firefight.”
“Well, it’s gotta be important if they’re so desperate, right?”
“It means they’re going to do everything possible to kill anyone associated with it.”
The two boys arguing on the couch of the living room whirled around to see the diminutive girl standing at the doorway of the basement, wearing a lab coat over a set of pajamas.
“Haibara?”
“You two are loud enough to wake the dead, and this isn’t a conversation that should be discussed at decibels that can be overheard.” The not-girl huffed and climbed onto the couch across from them, evidently not going back to bed until they finished their conversation.
“Oi! I told you I was careful. Look, they couldn’ta predicted I’d wake up early ‘cause of the omamori poking me... there. Even if they think I can get out of the fire before the place blew, they’d only be watchin’ my house and the people I was close to in Osaka.”
Haibara looked unconvinced, but her reply was preempted by Shinichi, who had calmed down from his initial tizzy fit at hearing Heiji’s story.
“He’s right. They haven’t followed him.” His next words erased the smug smile that had appeared on Heiji’s face. “Considering he couldn’t have taken a plane to Tokyo, they had plenty of time to easily intercept and kill him on the way here.”
“But they will find out if he steps out in public,” Haibara pointed out logically. “There are people who know him here, and you two are trouble magnets.”
“Yeah... well... so you don’t mind if I crash here for a while ‘til this blows over, willya?” Heiji grinned ingratiatingly at the girl. The effect was unfortunately spoiled by the ice pack pressed to his face.
“For a while?” Shinichi glared at him. “If it was that easy, I wouldn’t still be living as Conan.”
“Well,” Heiji put down the ice pack and prodded at the bag containing the information he’d nearly been killed for. “Not if we get ‘em for good.”
“You are so naïve…” Haibara declared, and then realized they’ve lost Shinichi’s attention. Now that the shrunken detective had calmed down, he was staring at the package with that familiar hunter’s smirk. “Kudo-kun, don’t tell me you… Oh no, of course you are. You’re just as bad as he is!”
“Told ya.”
Shinichi glared at both of them, but didn’t deign to refute the statement that was, if he had to be honest with himself, the truth.

Seriously, needs more Shin'ichi and Heiji in this world to make things go round. And just exactly how did Heiji think he was going to catch the Black Org? Iiiiiiiinteresting....
I'd give more feedback, but my head is overwhelmed. :p

When you think about it... Shinichi was really really lucky too in his initial bout with the BO. I mean, 1/1000 chance of surviving that drug, after all. He probably used up all his karma on that one (and subsequently accrued karma on any temporary cures).
So if you put the two boys together, their Shinigami aura multiplies... hey, why not the karmic luck too? :P
