I mean, hammer wielding ranger that buffs pets. It's obvious where they got the inspiration.

Of all the new specs they've announced so far, this is the only one that's peaked my interest.

Thief -> scepter, buff/debuff caster
Ele -> hammer, wells (sounds like guardian-lite)
Warrior -> offhand pistol, clunky buildup mechanic(?)
Revenant -> greatsword, melee/movement
Guardian -> sword offhand, melee/movement
Necro -> mainhand pistol, elixirs/condi
Mesmer -> mainhand dagger, condi/control
EDIT: Engi -> pet...?

Gyros are already really crappy minions (only 1 at a time, WTF?), so I can't imagine how much worse the pet system might be. =.= And to add insult to injury, the only decent build for an engie seems to be Holosmith, which is...blech. Swords on Engies don't make thematic sense.

I have less and less desire to retry GW2 with every bit of news released.

To be fair, you don't have to play sword for holosmith. My engi is set for holosmith and I use pistol/pistol, with either rifle or shield for the 2nd set.

Wait, what do you mean 2nd set? Do Engies get weaponswap with Holosmith?

Holosmith trait line give more dps, and its utility skills are very useful in many pve fights. Its pbaoe damage skill is useful when farming (my engi is my laby char when I still played).

All characters get 2 weapon sets now ever since they introduced the eq/skills template system. So ele and engi both can swap weapons now.

What is template system? Is this something that comes with PoF?

No, the template system is a new mechanic they added to core. Basically you have slots where you can save your EQ selection (clothing + trinkets + weapons), and for traits. For example, you can have a condi set vs a power set, or a spec line set, etc. The eq you're swapping has to be in inventory.

To be honest, I haven't used it much since it came out, since I tend to just pick one build and play it, and I can't be bothered to have armor pieces of different stats sitting around in my bags.

Pretty sure engi is still the forgotten step child tho, just like mes is still the favored child by the devs.

I took a quick look at the wiki and it seems that the build/equipment template isn't really a replacement for weapon swap, since it's meant to help easily switch between builds rather than to give a second set to all builds; and classes that get a second weapon can switch between four rather than two weapons now.
