Eh, I wasn't all that impressed by Red Skull in the last movie, honestly. He was one of the weaker parts of it. Nothing I saw really built him up as this great evil individual that made me think of him as a 'worthy opponent' to Steve.

All he had going for him was Hydra. And he was one of the most spectacular failures among Hydra's long term activities at that. *shrug*
