The scholar classes can nuke just fine. They do currently specialize in ranged AoEs and ranged AoE fields.

The heavy classes mostly AoE best from melee range, but melee is far more riskier to play than ranged.

The main problem IMO is that mitigation - especially direct mitigation - is currently heavily balanced on the heavy classes instead of the scholars who need it most.
